Texas county where campers died was denied money to boost warning systems TWICE

No, maga is pure trump
Lol, you really don't know? tRump stole it just like he steals everything. He has never had an original idea in his life.

Well, let's look.

"At 1:18 pm CDT on July 3, 2025, the National Weather Service office in San Antonio, Texas, issued a flood watch for Kerr County and other areas that would later be impacted by severe flooding."

They said perhaps 1-3 inches with 5-7 inches in some places.

At this point the camp should have been on some kind of alert. You're in a place that's had flash floods before, you need the camp contacted, you need people aware, you need them ready to move at short notice.

"On July 3 at 6:10 pm CDT, the Weather Prediction Center branch of the National Weather Service issued a Mesoscale Precipitation Discussion citing that "areas of flash flooding will be likely across central TX overnight with very heavy rainfall expected. Hourly rainfall in excess of 2 to 3 inches (51–76 mm) seems reasonable given the environment and localized 6-hr totals over 6 inches (150 mm) will be possible","

At this point the camp should definitely have been aware and should probably have been preparing to get out.

"The National Water Center Area Hydrologic Discussion (AHD) #144 at issued 6:22 PM CDT on 7/3/2025 messaged locally considerable flood wording for areas north and west of San Antonio, including the city of Kerrville."

At this point, they should have been got out, no matter what. There was a flood warning for Kerrville. The camp should have been told, informed of the danger and advised to move.

"The first Flash Flood Warning for the event was issued at 11:41 PM CDT Thursday for Bandera County."

Bandera county is just south of Kerrville.

"At 1:14 AM CDT Friday: Flash Flood Warning with a considerable tag was issued for Bandera and Kerr Counties. Flash Flood Warnings with the Impact-Based Warning tags “Considerable” or “Catastrophic” denote high-damage threats and will automatically trigger Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs) on enabled mobile devices, ensuring only the most life-threatening flash flood events prompt urgent public notifications. All alerts are also sent out over NOAA Weather Radio."

At this point someone should have been sent to the camp and forced everyone out.

That was HOURS before.
So it would appear that warnings were issued HOURS before the flooding happened? So why is it Trump's fault again? What DOGE cuts were responsible?

Yes, Frigid I would, since you didn't answer it. :)

Fine.

In LA they had wildfires. The fires killed 30 people. 31+ people were killed and 200,000 people were evacuated. More than 18,000 structures were damaged or destroyed.

The wildfires caused lots of physical damage, but didn't kill that many people.

Newsom prepared for the disaster in advance.

Who died?

"Annette Rossilli, 85, died in her Pacific Palisades home after insisting on staying,"

"Mitchell said his father called 911 asking for help evacuating. However, resources were stretched thin with dozens of evacuations taking place across the Altadena mountain community."

"Arthur Simoneau, a 69-year-old hang-gliding pilot, died while trying to save his home"

You're looking at situations where people didn't want to leave their homes. They had advance warning, and they didn't heed it. The second case was one where they wanted to leave, but because of medical issues, and because they didn't leave earlier, they died.

In the Texas floods, there were warnings, but people didn't get those warnings. That's a HUGE difference. Had there been warnings, a lot, LOT less people would have died. How many are dead in these floods? 30 people died in the LA wildfires, could have have been thousands without preparation.

You're comparing one event where people died because they made choices, and another where many more people died because they weren't aware of the choices.

I didn't say it was Trump's fault. At no point have I said it was Trump's fault. Reply to what I WRITE, not to what you think I must have said. This whole thread is not about Trump, never was, there's not "Trump" in the title, no "Trump" in the OP.

Once again you skirted the question. I asked you why high taxes didn't prevent the LA fires. You claimed that Texas had this catastrophe because they have low taxes. Address that...

Jeez. You're asking the wrong question.

The LA fires happened. 30 people died, mostly because they refused to more.
The Texas floods happened, 110 people died because they didn't know it was happening.

In both cases an event HAPPENED. Money doesn't stop the events happening, this isn't what we're talking about.

If you want to try and be clever, it's not working.

We're talking about how to save lives within a natural disaster, not how to stop it.

Then why did you bring up Texas' lower taxes, Frigid?

He switched to an unflamable hair gel! :)

Because an early warning system would have prevented a lot of the deaths, especially the deaths at the camp.

"Officials in Kerr County, Texas — where 27 campers and counselors at a Christian summer camp were killed in catastrophic flooding — had discussed installing a flood warning system along the banks of the Guadalupe River, known as “Flash Flood Alley,” but it was rejected as too expensive."

The flood warning system was not implemented because of penny pinching.

You are sick. You don't care about the children who died or anyone else. You only care about Trump, Trump, Trump. You have a mental illness about Trump (TDS). You can stop spreading these lies. There was plenty of warnings given days before the flooding. Even early on in the morning everyone was warned. The question is, why were they not evacuated before the rains? More money would not have made a difference. It was the choice not to evacuate. But, all you can do is think of how to hurt Trump. It was the state of Texas that denied requests, not Trump. Get some help.

He didn’t mention Trump. Get some help.

I bet you are one of those MAGATs that yell, "It is too soon to talk about gun control." after each mass shooting. You think everyone will forget and move on after a period of time. Fact are Facts

You think MAGA would not be screaming about Biden if this happened on his watch? Think again MAGAT.

As water levels surged up to 26 feet in just 45 minutes on the Guadalupe River in Texas, leaving over 100 dead, one town emerged relatively unscathed.

Officials in the town Comfort, which borders Kerr County, credit a new warning system with playing a key part in protecting the residents. But attempts to get similar protections in other areas were previously denied due to cost.

Comfort has wailing sirens, urging residents to flee before the floodwaters hit. They went off alongside emergency phone alerts and firefighters driving the town warning people. No deaths were reported in the town.

The town had recently updated its disaster alert system, installing a new siren at the volunteer fire department's headquarters. The floods on Friday were the first time the siren was used.

I wonder why so many died last year as a result of Hurricane Helene?

Same thing happened in 1987 ... that's within living memory ...

The EAS was activated ... the adults didn't think to move the children out of that lowest cabin? ...
Lets forget the deaths, the floods, the politics etc...

Camp Mystic is 18 miles from Kerrville acccording to Google. The folks at the camp (and probably at hundreds if not thousands of other camps tonight) that has all these kids there, had--APPARENTLY--I’M NOT SURE--nobody who stayed up all night just to make sure things are okay?

Looking back this seems like it was pretty negligent just on it’s surface. I never went to camp...we were light years away from being able to afford to even think about sending anyone to camp. But if you were to have asked me if there is a requirement that someone be on watch the entire time, I would have said yes.

Yep...for 50+ summers, nothing will happen and the organizers will hae to pay someone to essentially do nothing other than stay awake. Tough.

This is what Republicans call “needless regulations”.

Republicans FUNDAMENTALLY do not believe in spending money on these sorts of preventative measures.

They consider it to be waste, fraud and abuse.

But alas, the results of that evil ideology are what's happening now.
It’s not like you give a half a shit about these girls and their families. They are white and conservative Christians.

Had you people been in charge, you would have executed emergency policy the same way Harris-Biden emergency workers did.

The people in Kerr County made the call not to pay for an early warning system...not the State of Texas. Your cited article said that Hay's County DID install an early warning system at a cost of two million, $500,000 of which was paid for by a grant from the State. That decision is on the people in Kerr...not on the State leaders.
