So the FCC chair is threatening networks that broadcast unfavorable news

Nah, we aren’t on the same side. You’re conflating the issue.
No I am not, I am for free speech for everyone and NEITHER side should ever try to pressure the media into suppressing our 1st amendment rights, you on the other hand only care when your viewpoint gets suppressed and that is obvious. You want to make concessions and there is absolutely no concessions for our 1st amendment rights.

In your understanding of the 1st amendment was it a violation of the 1st amendment to stop churches from holding services?

Nowhere under the FCC regulations is it in their job description to do fact checks.
Well they have to determine what the facts are, when they are determining if the network was or is distorting the news

The FCC has had a policy against "news distortion" in over-the-air broadcast (local TV and radio stations) news for over 50 years. Cable news networks, newspapers or newsletters (whether online or print), social media platforms, online-only streaming outlets, or any other non-broadcast news platform are outside of the FCC's jurisdiction with respect to news distortion.

News distortion "must involve a significant event and not merely a minor or incidental aspect of the news report." In weighing the constitutionality of the policy, courts have recognized that the policy "makes a crucial distinction between deliberate distortion and mere inaccuracy or difference of opinion." As a result, broadcasters are only subject to enforcement if it can be proven that they have deliberately distorted a factual news report. Expressions of opinion or errors stemming from mistakes are not actionable.

He should be summarily dismissed.

And provided with a copy of the Constitution on his way out the door.

It’s an independent agency because commissioners couldn’t be fired at will, giving them independent authority.
who can fire them?

The fact the President can fire the Commissoners makes it not indpedent.

The FCC is not in the censorship business, no matter how much you wish you could curtail free speech.

After all, if the FCC were in that business, Fox "New" wouldn't have lasted a year. They were never a news organization and lie to thier audience so frequently and deliberately that they have spawned and entire army of fact checkers.

The Trumpster crowd that argues for censorship does not care whether what they are told to believe is true or not.

Trump decided he can fire commissioners at will. No other president thought they could do because Congress didn’t allow it.

I only care when the government uses force to suppress speech.

Your use of the term “pressure” is absurdly broad and includes merely attempting to persuade people on what they should and shouldn’t say.

Show me where in law where Congress said it was a independent agency

Fox News is a cable station

It’s not a broadcast network

You are familiar that there there are hundreds of local FOX broadcast affiliate stations yes? Some of their programming includes news and opinion shows - Fox New Sunday as an example.

A local Fox affiiate:

Of course I want him to be truthful

It’s weird you don’t care about the truth
You want him to be the arbiter of the truth. That doesn’t require he be truthful.
