Presently in the United States, millions of individuals have lost their source of income due to a government mandate to stay at home during the COVID-19 crisis. As a result of this loss of income, presumably things that American citizens have worked to obtain are in peril of loss, such as their homes, vehicles, educational opportunities, etc. And of course any default or late payments on loans, credit cards, mortgages, etc. damages one's credit score.

Even when the economy opens back up, for many Americans the damage will have already been done. You may be able to return to your job but you have a 3+ month deficit where you had no money coming in, yet your monthly expenses continued to accrue.

Because the government mandated the disruption to your ability to earn a living for yourself, do you think the government should compensate those who have suffered a loss via reparations?

Why or why not?

no make china pay !

Idk..it is largely local governments doing the shutdowns that hurt people..not Federal.
Good question, though. I hadn't thought of it like that.

The asswipePINO supporters should pay reparations, it's their fault, and they were warned by me. I also told you folks to get out of the market at 29.

1. First, China should cover the costs directly attributed to the virus by cancelling proportional debts owed by the US.
2. Secondly, any bailouts and expenses Congress made should be either
A. loans paid out and cosigned by those who APPROVE of these loans so much they agree to pay them back in case of default
and also put down property or programs as COLLATERAL (so that other investors and taxpayers can choose to buy out the debts in exchange for claiming ownership of shares)
B. restitution, reimbursement or credit to taxpayers charged back to the Wrongdoers based on documented cases of unconstitutional spending by govt or corporate abuses
3. Any violations of govt that cost law abiding citizens or businesses their property or business value
should be treated like "inverse condemnation" where the money owed in debts or damages
can be invested in the districts where the damages occurred and allow those districts
to INCORPORATE as separate sovereign cities or campus sites, in order to manage
their own economic and medical policies and avoid shutdowns or imposition from outside jurisdictions.

I'm not sure what the OP means by "reparations." It seems like us, paying us.

easy----use you imagination--who gets what depends on which interest group can PUSH THE HARDEST. Pay
attention to which ass the most populist minded in congress seek to kiss and who demands THE MOST

The economy hasn’t ‘shutdown’ – it’s still functioning, but at a decreased level; and there’s likely to be a further decrease in economic activity.

And ‘reparations’ are predicated on the notion that government has done something ‘wrong’ – which it clearly hasn’t.

Of course, the executive branch of the Federal government has certainly failed the American people, and it was wrong for administration officials to attempt to downplay the severity of the outbreak, call the outbreak a ‘hoax,’ and claim that the outbreak had been ‘contained,’ when in fact nothing could be further from the truth.

Moreover, there is no ‘government mandate’ to stay at home; the Federal government has issued no ‘mandate’ and the states have likewise issued no ‘mandate.’ The health and safety guidelines issued by healthcare professionals do not constitute a ‘mandate’ – citizens are free to leave their homes.

Consequently, the idea that ‘the government’ is somehow ‘responsible’ for the job losses and economic hardship is both wrong and ridiculous; the cause is the COVID-19 pandemic.

Otherwise, yes – it’s perfectly appropriate and warranted for government to increase spending during a recession.

Government spending has the effect of facilitating economic recovery.

Right. While you're at it, make Meixico pay for the Wall. Be sure and add an extra tariff to paint it gilded gold.

So your saying the virus came into the capitol of each state and issued executive orders to shut down? Lmao! No, the local governments have done all this and they had no right to do so.

It may not have been a lot for each individual, but couldn't you say they already did with the stimulus?
The $1,200? What if you earn $1,200 a week? The stimulus payment only compensates you for one lost week of work. What about the other 11 weeks if the shutdown lasts 3 months? And the damage caused by not having the money when you should have had it and didn't, such as late fees, higher interest payments.

And what about damage to your credit score, resulting in higher interest payments, inability to rent a new place because you didn't have money to pay on the place you were living when the shutdown started, etc. Things like that.

A mandate is not an order?
Inslee announces "Stay Home, Stay Healthy" order

March 23, 2020

Tonight, Gov. Jay Inslee spoke directly to Washingtonians to announce he will sign a statewide order that requires everyone in the state to stay home. The order will last for two weeks and could be extended.

This Stay Home, Stay Healthy order is similar to orders that other governors, in places such as California and New York, issued last week.
This proclamation will:
  • Require every Washingtonian to stay home unless they need to pursue an essential activity.
  • Ban all gatherings for social, spiritual and recreational purposes.
  • Close all businesses except essential businesses.
“The less time we spend in public, the more lives we will save,” Inslee said.

What our corrupt government should do is a debt jubilee. Have the fed buy all debt of the 90%. All mortgages, student loans, car loans , credit card debt...all goes to the Fed.

Hell they do it for big banks and corporations, why not the people.
