Not sure about when you went to school but when I did, the people who knew the most about students were not principals or teachers but other students. If Jane sees an assault weapon in Jill's locker...I'd like for her to be able to call someone. It likely won't matter but it could. Also, the members of the "well regulated militia" are shooting up the school, perhaps the kid would want to talk to their mom as they are sheltering in place. Just a thought.

There is actually no need for any child to need a personal cellphone at school. They are there to get an education, and if some real need should arise, the school itself has plenty of phones to call out from, and for authorities and parents to call if needing the child that it cannot wait.

Carrying around a phone during school just invites distraction from one's education and fosters dependence.
