Should Schools Ban Cellphones?

School district the kids went to:
Students are not permitted to use cellphones in hallways, classrooms, or restrooms. Students may use their cellphone before school and during their lunch period only.

Should a parent need to reach a student, a call should be made to the front office. Conversely, if a student needs to reach a parent, they may use a campus phone.

If a cellphone is being used during a prohibited time, staff will follow the Campus Consequences guidelines, beginning with a verbal warning and potentially escalating to an office referral for repeated infractions.

I say yes but only for emergencies. You can have your phone with you but turned off.

I voted no on general principle though I agree with others that it is possible there could be very VERY rare exceptions the phone could be needed during school hours. It is probably unreasonable that they not have their phone in their backpack or locker for immediate use after the school day but turning the phone on at any time during the school day should be allowed only by permission of someone in authority at the school.

Students should be encouraged as much as possible to think, relate to others, learn without the distraction of electronic devices.

Yeah I should have kept the question the same as the title lol because no means that you don't want them banned.

Note.
The question in the poll is opposite the title.
I voted yes, because cell phones should be banned by schools.
I see people voting the opposite of their posts based on the title.
The title question is different then the question in the thread, it’s the opposite. It got me

True, but most kids today probably wouldn't know how to use a landline.
Yes, because technology has worked to dumb down America. Using technology wrongfully has been a major issue in this country. Part of that is kid's having tool's in their hands before they are mature enough to understand the powerful negativity associated with such tool's.... It's an information train being controlled by rogue forces whom are doing so for nefarious and many times algorithmic grooming reasons, otherwise putting before them very enticing things that pull the young folk's into the spider web without them even realizing it until it's too late.

The 70's were 50 years ago old man.

We have rules, I'm sure some schools are different and teachers within the same school treat it differently.

No one in my classroom had their cellphone out, and IF they tried to sneak it, they were usually caught and the phone was taken, constitutionally correct or NOT, IDGAF.
They got it back later.

If a student asked to text their parent, after a school announcement to some cancelled event, then I let them use it. ONE minute Text. Isn't this better than some alternative of all kids going to the office and calling home or just NOT informing the parents.
I get it, in the 70's, that wasn't an option, but it is NOW.
Wouldn’t it make more sense for the school to just send out a mass text regarding the announcement?

What’s the scenario where them not having their phone immediately as soon as school is over is detrimental to the child?

The OP completely fucked up this poll.

I said that I was sorry but at the same time I thought that people were capable of reading the question before answering it.

No they shouldn't ban it but keep them for emergencies. I guess I could have added the for there but I also that was clear from what I said in the OP.

Won't work.. Have you experienced the youth of today, and attempted to derail or take from them the modern thing's of this world(?), otherwise it's because the technology has been found to be dangerous, influential in a bad way or corrupting too the mind.

If we could trust and vette those dealing with the children, and make sure that they are provided with the building blocks needed to achieve their dream's, then we as parent's could relax once again.

After all that has developed under leftist liberal ideologies, leaving the children to modern technological devices without proper supervision is a fools game.

Not sure why you just don’t change the question to match the subject line…..
