Police kill 2 men who opened fire outside Muhammad art show in Garland Dallas Morning News

Some important details:

Two men who opened fire outside a contest for cartoons depicting the Muslim prophet Muhammad were killed by police Sunday at a Garland ISD events center.

The controversial event at the Curtis Culwell Center was wrapping up shortly before 7 p.m. when the two gunmen pulled up in a car and shot an unarmed Garland ISD security officer.

Seconds later, Garland police returned fire and killed the two gunmen before anyone else was hurt.

The security officer, Bruce Joiner, was treated at a hospital for an ankle wound and released.

The bodies of the gunmen remained on the street outside the Culwell Center hours after they were shot, and their identities had not been released late Sunday.

A bomb squad was investigating whether explosives might be in their car....

...security guards quickly escorted the event’s organizer, Pam Geller, from the stage...

..Johnny Roby of Oklahoma City said he was outside the Culwell Center when he heard about 20 shots that sounded as though they came from a passing car. He said he then heard two more shots before police rushed him back into the building...

...Before the shooting, the scene was unremarkable outside the Culwell Center, except for the thick security that included Garland police, school district security and private guards.

“We were expecting protests outside the building,” Perkins said.

But Alia Salem, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations Dallas-Fort Worth, said she and other Muslims had wanted nothing to do with the event.

“We were actively ignoring and encouraging the community to ignore it,” she said. “We did not want to be the bearers of any kind of incitement.”

Imam Zia Sheikh of the Irving Islamic Center wrote online that though he was waiting to see how the facts unfold, “as of now condemning any act of terror. No justification whatsoever.”...

(Geller)... said Sunday night that the shooting showed how “needed our event really was.”...

...The American Freedom Defense Initiative paid an additional $10,000 upfront for 40 officers to work security at the event. Geller called that expense “the high cost of freedom.”

Police had been monitoring social media for online threats. Activity on Twitter before the gunfire began included a post that mentioned “#texasattack”: “May Allah accept us as mujahideen [those engaged in jihad].”...

...In January, the Culwell Center had been the scene of dueling protests during a pro-Muslim Stand With the Prophet in Honor and Respect event.

Some protesters then called for peace and understanding, while anti-Muslim demonstrators argued that extremists’ beliefs threatened the U.S...

So, it was a quick shootout and in no time the gunmen were dead. The security guard, thank goodness, was only lightly injured. The identities of the gunmen have not yet been released. The Islamic community has already condemned this as possibly being an act of terror. This may be considered a controversial event, but the Center also held a controversial event on "the other side" in January.

Wait and see who the gunmen were.

BTW, who is Bosh Fawstin, the cartoonist who won the $10,000 for his Muhamed cartoon?

http://www.frontpagemag.com/2013/bosch-fawstin/my-name-is-bosch-and-im-a-recovered-muslim/

He claims to be a recovering Muslim.

And this is his website:

Bosch Fawstin

You can see some of his cartoons there.

and his bio from his own website:

And an interview of him in the Glazov-Gang:

Pardon me, but the name "Bosch Fawstin" doesn't exactly sound like the name he was born with.

Anyhow, I am not speculating. The Dallas Police will put out all the details in time. As soon as their identities are released, I will post them on this thread.

Hmmm.... Dallas..... shootings.... hmmmmm......

Discuss. Who do you think the gunmen were.

They were likely Muslims mad at the Muhammad depictions.

If i had to wager.

And they deserved to be put down like the dogs they are.

Geller seems to be a disgusting, hate-filled individual.
Nowhere NEAR as hate-filled as the maniacs who tried to commit violence there, eh?

Golly-gosh gee-willickers and goodness-gracious, Emmy Lou, but...

I DO wonder what religious creed incites and gives explicit permissions for such behaviors, worldwide, time and again and again and again?

Had enough of it yet?

Most of the rest of US have, I assure you.

I am fascinated Og-bile. In what way do you consider Geller to be "a disgusting, hate filled individual"? I was born
post World War II-----and was a child circa 1960 in a suburban/rural traditionally Nazi town. I read the islamo Nazi literature at that time------and even the pre islamo stuff of
the USA-------it was all around town in little sleazy pamphlets.
There were LOTS OF CARTOONS about JOOOOOS. In
recent years----ie the past 60 years or so------lots of cartoons
have been elaborated by the "UMMAH" and it's Nazi war criminal shills in their JIHADDDDDD A few years ago I actually did predict the era of the CARTOOOOON WAR----between the forces of shariah shit and------decency------
THE CARTOOON WARS HAVE BEGUN

But not the men shooting into the crowd?

How many threads is this now?
:dunno:
I didn't comment on the shooters.

But whst was the point of her "art" contest if not to engender hate? What's the point of her transit "jihad" ad campaign if not to raise discord?

She's a disgusting person.
that doesn't excuse the shooters.

To demonstrate the virtue of Free Speech in connection with Islam in America (and, indeed, The West), in much the same way as Christianity and Buddhism and Judaism and all the rest have been parodied over the decades?

Consider it a forcible de-sensitizing of Muslims about such things. If they want to live in The West alongside the rest of us, they're just gonna have to acclimate.

On the macro level, this (such demonstrations of Free Speech in connection with Islam) is part of that necessary process, to drag them, kicking and screaming, into the same 21st Century that much of the rest of the world lives in.

And, any time that they become violent over it and try to kill us, we will kill them, instead, or also.

Want to be respected? Don't want to be thought of as religiously-motivated violent savages and Neanderthals?

Don't riot or hurt people over shit like this.

Hope that helps.

You bet. That doesn't make either less disgusting

I can tell you this, too - I'd bet dollars to donuts Geller is happy as a pig in shit over the shooting

If the gunmen are Muslim, they're not representative of all Muslims, or Islam in general.

And unfortunately there will be those with an unwarranted hatred toward Islam who will exhibit their ignorance and stupidity by trying to propagating the lie that the gunmen are 'representative' of all Muslims.

Ironic that you would say that, given the post earlier in this thread by a person who said he'd be happy if Geller were murdered.

Didn't see any of your outrage then, I wonder why.

Just kidding, I don't wonder why.

Thanks Obama..

ISIS is here.

I only hope to dispatch my share before they get me

ISIS Claims Responsibility For Texas Shooting That Leaves Two Dead, Police Officer Injured

Yesterday, around 7 pm, dozens of people were at a contest hosted by New York-based American freedom Defense Initiative at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas when police said two men pulled up in a vehicle and shot a Garland Independent School District Security guard in the ankle at about 7 p.m. The men were then shot and killed by Garland police.

The incident occurred as the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland hosted a
controversial art event put on by New York-based American freedom
Defense Initiative featuring cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

However, as the recent massacre at the Paris Charlie Hebdo offices showed, such drawings are deemed insulting to many followers of Islam and have sparked violence around the world. According to mainstream Islamic tradition, any physical depiction of the Prophet Muhammad is considered blasphemous.

According to NBCDFW, "Texas officials are actively investigating to determine the cause and scope of the senseless attack," Texas Governor Greg Abbott said in a statement. "This is a crime that was quickly ended thanks to the swift action by Garland law enforcement."

The security guard, 58-year-old Bruce Joiner, was treated released from a hospital nearly two hours later, police said.

"Our thoughts and prayers remain with all those affected tonight," Abbott said.
