Congress has no "power" under the Constitution to spend tax dollars on "education," whatever that is.

The legitimate functions of the DoE are being handed off to other departments, mainly DoJ, which ensures compliance with Federal anti-discrimination laws.

Maybe the colleges should co-sign the loans from the banks?

I agree the best system is for the schools to be on the hook for financing the education of their students.

As far as private bank-based student loans, I'd rather the colleges put up collateral for student loans, give 'em something to do with those tax-exempt endowments.

Our super power has been in steep decline--some way it was dying--for a long time now.

Doing away with destructive, wasteful or useless government agencies like the Department of Education is an excellent step to reverse that.
