Are they really though? Teachers work fewer days than most other full-time occupations. They also tend to have generous benefits in a lot of states. Tenure also makes it so that firing a senior but incompetent or activist teacher is very difficult.

It is true that some states pay teachers less overall, but this is often in states where wages in general are lower. So, most of the time, their wages scale with cost of living.
