SCOTUS allows Trump to finish dismantling the Department of Education

The problem is your blanket statement. Many unions now restrict union funds from being used for political contributions. You would know that if you had ever been a member of a teacher's union. The end result is irrelevant, so I would think you would be happy they were funding the democrats lost cause!

You educational experts love to pontificate about shit you know nothing about! You are lucky to have me and several other conservative educators on here to show you the truth when you are misinformed, but you never want to listen.

You are more moderate than you realize.

Just typed in how much the teachers unions gave democrats...

Here is another source....

You didn't know how much money they gave...did you? The teachers unions launder money for the democrat party.....

=====
Teachers unions have steadily amped up their political involvement: From 2004 to 2016, their donations grew from $4.3 million to more than $32 million -- an all-time high. Even more than most labor unions, they have little use for Republicans, giving Democrats at least 94 percent of the funds they contributed to candidates and parties since as far back as 1990, where our data begins.

Two organizations account for practically all of the contributions made by teachers unions: The National Education Association (about $20 million in 2016) and the American Federation of Teachers (almost $12 million). Both groups -- which compete for members, but also collaborate with each other through the NEA-AFT Partnership -- are consistently among the organizations that contribute the most money to candidates and political groups. Oh they are just more obvious about in now. Back when I was working on the Hill they were a bit sneaker but were every bit as thirsty. Say if they wanted to rain on Candidate X, they would make their max donation, then find 10-15 like-minded PAC's who hadn't donated to X and say "Okay, we will buy your donor list for $7,500.00 if you make a $5K donation to X with the money wink wink"

Another win for Trump! Another win for America! I'm anxious to see the ruling, especially the justice who can't define herself.
Trump says he wants to return control of education to the states — which sounds bold until you realize the federal DOE doesn’t actually run schools. States already control curriculum, teacher licensing, and school policy. The DOE mostly handles civil rights enforcement, student loans, and national data collection.

So what’s being “returned”? Nothing. The real irony is that gutting the DOE doesn’t increase local control — it just removes the federal safety net that protects local students. It's like cutting the fire alarm and calling it homeowner empowerment.

Are they really though? Teachers work fewer days than most other full-time occupations. They also tend to have generous benefits in a lot of states. Tenure also makes it so that firing a senior but incompetent or activist teacher is very difficult.

It is true that some states pay teachers less overall, but this is often in states where wages in general are lower. So, most of the time, their wages scale with cost of living.
I know a guy who had to have two jobs, his teaching job in Mississippi and another one, and that was without kids, without a wife.

He moved to China, earns 4 times more for much less work.

Well, good for him. China might pay better for his work, but I'm sure there are many tradeoffs to moving there. His political freedom is much lower there, for example.

Well, he has none in China because he's a foreigner. He has none in Mississippi because he can only vote for two parties and the Republican win every time, no matter who he votes for. So.... no difference.

Total BS on every level.

You seem to dislike the "first past the post" system we have. I also dislike it. However, even if we had instant runoff voting or ranked choice voting, his effect on who gets elected would remain the same, assuming everyone only gets one vote each.

No, I don't "dislike" the FPTP system. I ******* hate it.

No, AV and instant run off are basically the same thing. If implemented in the US, it wouldn't change anything.

Ok, so it sounds like we're in agreement unless you have some other solution....

Yeah, Proportional Representation, put the head of state into Congress as the leader of the largest party, change how the Supreme Court justices are put in their positions...

As far as the Supreme Court goes, my main beef with it is the lifetime appointment thing. We need an Amendment to change it into rotating terms of Justices. We could have 1 seat up for appointment every 2 years on an odd-numbered year.

Maybe, but I think how they're elected is more important.

15th post
Have to eliminate the superintendents and bureaucracy

How much did they give to Republicans?
Why does it matter? Does spending by a candidate affect your vote? The point is Democrats could outspend other candidates by multiple factors and they still would not have won. Money does not translate into votes if your message is bad.

Wow, so no difference between the number one Police State in the world that literally monitors your every move 24/7/365 and America, eh? Really? Maybe want to rethink that and get back to us?

The Unions gave a total of about $39MM in total, $53,000 to Republicans, the rest went to democrats, Liberals and other groups who want to destroy the American educational system

Tell me that works for you
