Schools Should Not Be Islands of Lawlessness

If you love your kids you will make the sacrifices necessary and never let them see the inside of a public school.

Problem solved, problem staying solved.

Okay.

What do we do with all the millions and millions and millions of kids whose parents are terrible?

But she was right
My state (VT) is engaged in a huge 'public ed' snafu with all the legislators and governor battling over policy and direction

It's gotten rather ugly too, right on down to school board resignations, supervisory resignations, etc

with the teachers bearing the brunt of public discontent

All the very vocal JOY Maga has expressed with Trump's deportation plans have lead Schools to be cautious and over react imo.

I hope you realize that illegals are purposefully put into lower-income schools. Right? Where the needs are higher? You know this, right?

Do you have an argument to support this? Let's hear it. And if we were talking about Heaven I would agree it's mean. But this is not heaven yet, so just claiming it's "mean" doesn't wash.

I have loved teaching since moment one. I was born to do this.

So it breaks my heart to think that no one should ever go into it now. Ten years ago I bristled when I heard teachers say this. But now....sadly....I would strongly discourage my own children from doing it.

But they didn't, because they saw and knew.

Not my circus.....I can only deal with keeping one, maybe two at a time in private school.

They steal my property tax away every six months to attend to other's crotch fruit so that will have to do.

Do not dare to depend on that "crotch fruit" if you get ill, disabled, or very old.

I'll be fine but thanks for the concern.

Be intellectually and rationally consistent.

If you don't want to, as a society, help small dependents, don't expect them to help you when you are old, ill, or disabled.

That's just common sense.

My social media is filled with the news that "ICE came to an elementary school", which is of course false. It was the Dept of Homeland Security in Chicago looking into a neighborhood issue. The school turned them away (link below).

Some thoughts:

1. Schools should not be islands of lawlessness. If there is a terrorist working in a school, what? Keep him there so the children's feelings are not hurt? Schools run on tight schedules. Come nab the perp when the children are at lunch, recess, etc.

2. Leftists only say "What about the children?" when they can gain political ground. I watched them during Covid: calling children germ vectors, insisting we mask BABIES, keeping them out of school for months and years. Children were not their chief concern then, nor now.

3. My support will stop if ICE/DHS goes into schools to get children. This will not happen, btw, but some dream of it for what a political win it would be for them.

The Chicago "ICE" story:

CPS officials shared an update in a statement Friday evening, saying the agents showed ID that included the name Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE and the Secret Service:

"Earlier today, Chicago Public School leaders shared that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents showed up this morning (Friday) at Hamline Elementary School. After our District officials shared public statements, we learned that the agents who visited the school were from the U.S. Secret Service. Our original communication was a result of a misunderstanding, reflective of the fear and concerns in the community amid the new administration's focus on undocumented immigrants. Here's what happened: Two individuals showed up at the school door and presented identification that includes the name Department of Homeland Security, the federal agency that oversees ICE. School officials proceeded to respond to the agents with the understanding that they were from ICE, amid rumors and reports that the agency was in the community. Regardless of which branch of Homeland Security visited this school, officials followed the established protocols to ensure student safety. The agents were not allowed into the school or permitted to speak with staff or students. Hamline administrators also worked with CPS' Law Department and CPS' Office of Safety and Security. The situation was handled with the federal agents leaving the campus without entry. While this was a misunderstanding in terms of the specific branch of DHS, the school's response demonstrates that our system, in partnership with community organizations, is prepared and ready to keep our students and staff safe."

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson shared a statement about the situation on social media, saying it is "imperative that individuals not spread unverified information that sparks fear across the city."

Due process my dear fellow even for the kids.

Meh, I pay my property taxes as I have no choice....You know, like the producers in your AO that pay your salary. Folks are getting damn sick of it too.

My AO just got our new property assessments and saw, on average, a 40% increase so don't try to zoom me that those monies going to the school system is being put to its full use what with teachers constantly whining for pay increases.....They are never sated.

Being retired I'm sure as hell not bringing down what they are a year. I had to sacrifice to be comfortable in my retirement and they are still stealing from me.

They should be paying me for the forced support I've given them over my working life (and now after) yet never used any public school resources.....I deserve some relief!

I have an appointment next month with the assessor's office for redress on my raw land holdings which saw a 50% increase.....50 fuckin' percent!

And for what, so your ilk can enjoy ever longer school year vacations and snow days on my dime? Fuck that noise.

Great. We're all quitting. Go in and do it if it's such a cake job!

Also, you could move to a state where funding is not based on property tax.....

Also, we are paid for a certain number of days per year. We can spread those payments out across the year, but we are technically not getting paid for summer and other vacations. Most districts are somewhere around 180-190 days/year.

No need to defend yourself Sue. What many want is for you to do the job for basically free. They feel it's ok if they make a decent wage though. I hate to say it but it's typical in america. It is truly a phenomenon. They'll worship the Uber wealthy ceo though. You just keep on doing your work. Lots of kids benefit from it. Don't ever lose sight of that.

Something or another happened at one schools which makes it applicable to all schools it would seem.

Unruly behavior and violence in schools seems to be an epidemic. Maybe it's just the presence of social media these days that's allowing us to see it more. I don't know, but I don't remember it being this bad when I was a kid and I'm not even that old. I graduated in 2000.

When I went to school we had fights quite often. No one made a big deal over it. But not really my point you replied to.

I volunteer at my G-Grandkid's learning daycare. I'll do so at his private K-12 school next year if I'm able and they will have me so just bugger off with all that "I'm on my own" BS....Damn cackling hens and their reps just sit around trying to figure out how to grift more money from the producers of the country.

Perhaps you should seek gainful employment in the market of competitive commerce elsewhere if you can't handle it.
