Your source is dishonest. The part you left out is this:

• Nearly half had no criminal conviction nor even any pending criminal charges.

That means more than half of your ICE detainees were actually criminals in some way, shape or form. Just not violent.

Not being a criminal is not a blanket amnesty. They obviously caught them while arresting actual illegals.

You do know that people with DUIs kill people when they continue to break the law. Why not deport the illegals convicted of DUI while we can, before they kill someone? That's not a violent crime until they actually kill someone. It's preventative in application.

Yes, I am well aware of The federal statute against illegal border crossing being 8 U.S.C. § 1325, which makes unlawful entry into the United States a misdemeanor for the first offense, but a felon for subsequent border crossing offenses.

I am just not aware of any other misdemeanor offenses that can basically see you thrown in hell hole prison, without visitation, without a trial and kept there on an open ended basis for the government without bail, or lawyer, and that sometimes see the government ignore habeas orders from Federal judges.

According the both houses of Congress and all Federal statutes of law, just being here, illegally crossing, and overstaying a visa are misdemeanors. As an Officer, I got a ticket for going 27 in a 25 mile zone on a military base, another Federal misdemeanor (which I paid before a Federal Judge when the court date rolled around) but I didn't get rounded up and sent to a federal prison camp in an alligator swamp without bail to await a hearing that could be postponed for 6 months at government discretion.
