Russia unleashes potent ODAB-1500 air bomb in Ukraine for the first time

Russian forces have deployed a powerful ODAB-1500 bomb in Ukraine for the first time, striking the town of Velyka Pysarivka in Sumy Oblast, Russian Bild reported on Telegram on March 30.

Following the ODAB-1500 strike, a smoke cloud billowed to a height of 1 kilometer, reported Bild military analyst Julian R pcke.
The ODAB, or volumetric detonating aviation bomb, is a relic from the Soviet era. About 10 meters before impact, this bomb releases a combustible liquid in aerosol form, igniting upon contact, resulting in a volumetric explosion.

These bombs primarily target enemy soldiers and lightly armored vehicles, delivering devastating blast effects.

There's nowhere to hide from those.

The Russians do love them some heavy hitters. Ivan must have found a warehouse full.

It might just be me but I think it's time for the Uke midget to come to the table seeing how he's working through a generation of men at a pretty good clip.

That's a Fuel Air Explosive Bomb. The US was using them against caves in Afghanistan years ago. While they are legal, most countries ban them from being used against civilian targets, but they are legal for use against military targets. The rules are complicated like those about using White Phosphorus weapons. Those can be used when intended to cause a smoke screen, but not when intended as anti-personnel weapons.

That photo is years old, most of those storage facilities are empty now. Every tank easily repaired or rebuilt has been fixed and destroyed in Ukraine.
