Replacing Teachers

Im sorry to hear that, truly. I have to ask, if i may respectfully, why your florida pension is thst small? Do they not have a good pension system? I know of teachers here that moved to florida to teach after retiring. So they were getting their pensions from here, and getting a full salary in florida. And then they got SS as well.
My pension was for 10 years' service. It would have been about twice that for 20 years. I started teaching at age 36. Florida's pay and thus pensions suck!

Why do you think that is? If we want good people like yourself teaching then chsnges need to be made.

It won't change because school boards throughout the state abuse teachers. I taught for 21 years. Do you know how many times I achieved tenure? Once. Taught there for 10 years. The longest anywhere else? 3 years. Tenure is at the start of the 4th year.

It is far too easy to replace experienced teachers with cheaper teachers just out of school. I left a school at 3 years and my position was replaced every year by a first year teacher for 3 consecutive years. Their total salaries for those three years would not have paid me for a year. It's a well-known racket.

Thats really disgusting frankly. We hear posters here complaining about teachers. Then when theres a good one its "they are overpaid" ad nauseum. They want the job done for nothing. Thsts their goal. Bottom line.

The lack of knowledge you clowns have about education is equivalent to trumps 4th grade vocabulary.
I judge education by people's actions. Based on my observations education is an abysmal failure.

Unk,
I'll bet that everyone in America who complains about affordable housing has a smartphone. I'd call that failure on a massive scale. And that includes those who are sipping a Starbucks coffee and complaining as well. And don't get me started on movie channel subscriptions.

I dunno. I think I may be right about this.

School administrations can thwart teachers' efforts in several ways:

I've always thought that 'commencement" ceremonies should include what has happened to previous generations of grads. It might put a dose of reality in those skulls full of mush.

You realize how quickly the number of people would climb into the thousands, right? Once in a while a former student who went on to accomplish something remarkable is invited back to speak, but not everyone.

My point is that a degree isn't a guarantee of anything in life.
