Agreement on Presidential Debates Seen Soon

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - With less than two weeks to go until the first scheduled debate, the campaigns of President Bush and Democrat John Kerry have yet to seal an agreement on the number and terms of presidential debates.

Frank Fahrenkopf, a co-chair of the Commission on Presidential Debates, which recommended three presidential debates and one vice presidential one, said on Thursday he was hopeful of an agreement soon.

The Kerry campaign wants the recommended three debates but the Bush campaign would like to limit them to two.


Is any one besides me a bit curious how an undecided voter is determined? If Bush declines that debate do you think it will hurt him?

We have a pretty good idea. State controlled everything. High taxes and zero competition. The elimination of capitalism and individualism. Why do you think i fight so hard to destroy liberals. As limbaugh says, we need a few around to remind us of who they are so that we never become them again as a society.

This is hardly Dole-Clinton. This election will be far, far closer than that one was. That's why there were only two debates. There should be three, but Bush will probably duck one, and only agree to narrow, stringent terms on the other two so he doesn't have to answer any tough questions.

This election will be extremely close. It will come right down to a few votes just as Bush-Gore in 2000 did.

The fact is, Bush doesn't want to debate because he knows debates will help Kerry.

Do you know how improbable it is that this election will come as close as the 2000 election? Statistics alone dictate this is a longshot. And it isnt shapping up to be. Bush has a steady lead at the moment. Kerry is pulling advertisement out of swing states and essentially conceding them which is allowing Bush to transfer his advertising out too and focus them on traditionally liberal states. California, New Jersey, New York and IL are likely to be in play. And Kerry doesnt have a chance to beat Bush in the debates.

The campaigns of President Bush and Sen. John F. Kerry have tentatively settled on a package of three face-to-face debates that both sides view as a potentially decisive chance to sway huge audiences ahead of the Nov. 2 election, Democrats and Republicans said yesterday.

Bush's campaign opened the negotiations by urging just two sessions involving Bush and Kerry, but yielded to the full slate of debates that had been proposed by the Commission on Presidential Debates, according to people in both parties who were briefed on the negotiations...

I look forward to the debates. Instead of Kerry just telling us that he will gain strength with more allies he will actually tell us how he is going to do it. Then again maybe he won't or he will tell us of one strategy then in another debate tell us of another opposing strategy. Who knows?? Does Kerry?? Maybe Kerry can also enlighten us on why he even wants to be the President.

My guess is (now that rumor has it the UN will take bribes) that Kerry will get many allies and UN approval by BUYING it.

I think it's a big mistake for Dems to assume kerry has the edge in these debates, for one thing Kerry is a huge BORE, and most importantly he has no core beliefs, he says whatever he thinks will put him in the Whitehouse changing his tune everyday, whether you agree with Bush or not he sticks to his word and you know exactly where he stands. Also Bush is an extremely likeable guy, and that will play well into the camera.........
