Pres. Biden wants $15/hr min wage; Thanks but NOW its not enough

Raising the federal minimum wage to $20/hr as a one size fits all approach would end up really hurting small businesses and probably be a shock to the system. Besides, $20/hr does not have the same buying power throughout the country. Long Island’s minimum wage is supposed to be at $15/hr next year but you can’t realistically expect that wage to provide a living for you here.
But then no one but the OP shit stirrer is proposing a $20/hr MW are they...
But it should be $20 bucks an hour in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle.
We should get inputs from landlords as to what the optimum minimum wage should be.

Been reading that President Biden will make min wage $15/hour. Thanks Mr. President but that was enough in 2010. Not 2020. It needs to be $20/minimum. 40 hours/week after taxes thats like $2300 a month.

A 1 bedroom apt in my city is like $1200/month
Student loan payment $300
Power/cable/phone/water.....another $400
Car $200
(Already $2100 gone)

I could go on but as you can see it rapidly is gone and we havent even gotten to healthcare, food, clothing, recreation

Mr President.....$20 an hour is the minimum

How about we just go hunting for wetbacks...let’s round them all up and send them all home to their thirdworld shitholes?
Wages will work itself out...Laborers with a standard that aligns with America’s founding principles will demand higher wages, better conditions and the like thus driving up wages all the way up the employment chain.

Right wingers love their socialism on a national basis while alleging they are not really like that in socialism threads.

And daniel likes his weed, but neither of those is the topic.

You, like the OP, want a straw man to fight against.

Look up straw man. Use your google machine
Bear is a troll...and a really incompetent one at that

Common what possibly could go wrong if blue states raised there minimum wage to $50 bucks an hour
(Which it should be) and red states remain at $7.25(Which is fine by them)
So, what if it did happen? Would there be more mass migration from red States like there was after slavery on the plantation for no minimum wage was abolished?

Why would jobs move to blue states?

If it was $50 bucks an hour?

The migration would be the other way around. The red state would be the only place poor people could find work. The only people left in the blue state would be those who could earn $50/hr.

Who should decide whether a given job is worth doing?

You are only worth as much as another person willing to do the job for the same money. We all are.

You make 20 bucks an hour operating a drill press, tell your employer you want a raise or you're walking, and you end up leaving because he refused.

If your employer can find somebody to do the same job and quality of work you did for 20 bucks an hour, you were making what you deserved. If he can find somebody for 18 dollars an hour, you were overpaid. If he has to increase his offer to 22 bucks an hour to get somebody to operate your drill press, you were underpaid.

True but i'm sure there are plenty of people out there that would try to keep pushing the number higher and I was responding to his call for $20/hr. The argument around increasing minimum wage to $15/hr always seems to center around people having a living wage. They make the case that $15hr gets you closer to that but like I said in my previous comment was that $15/hr on Long Island and in many other parts of the country isn't even close to a living wage so where do you stop? I'm all for fair wages but not all jobs are meant or designed to provide a comfortable living for a person or family. Many of those jobs are meant to be more temporary than a long term career.

Arbitrary mandated minimum wage will do what to jobs vs. what job expansion in a tight labor market will do to wages and benefits?

Simply stated, if my cash flow as a business can’t afford to keep or expand a team at $20/hr, what is going to happen to the jobs; especially in recession times?

Think it through.

What the left doesn't understand is that when wages increase, the cost of everything you buy goes up as well. They actually believe that if you increase MW to 15 bucks an hour, everything else will stay the same. Nobody on higher levels of pay will demand increases right along with the minimum wage. In fact some unions pay scale is determined by the distance they are to the minimum wage.
