Active infection is needed to fill the stats you are reciting and they are similar to influenza. Slightly higher than influenza but still similar.
However,
The kidney damages, lung damages, and heart and nervous system damages resulting from an infection which ultimately cause deaths are significantly higher than influenza related deaths.

I was just reviewing a hospital system in GA that is experiencing a 25% mortality rate from those who have been admitted for coronavirus. The disability rate is also going through the roof. Meaning that yes people are surviving but are going to be at a minimum harmed and disabled for an extended period of time.

True scientific journals are available to the public but the free ones are not exactly free from flawed science either. Then there are published reports that are written in a fashion for the scientific community... meaning that they already know the difference between dying of COVID-19 and dying from ailments caused by an initial Covid infection. But your lay person isn't going to know the difference...just like the writers of the articles you just linked to doesn't understand what the difference is.

From the CDC data for cause of death 2019 and 2020. Heart disease remained number one, with virtually the same number of deaths in 2019 as in 2020.

Second was cancer, and again the number of deaths from cancer in 2019 was virtually the same number of such deaths in 2020.
