Pete Hegseth blasts " insane fallacy that 'our diversity is our strength.'”

I don't because it's hard. It took me nearly 3 decades to learn English. Yea sure I can speak it well enough now, but trust me the process was very long and hard. Nobody wants that.
I don’t mind. I think it’s wonderful to be able to speak different languages.

Depends on your definition of worse.

Nepo in Hollywood for example can lead to financial downfall. Will Smith for example, got his son a role alongside with him. The movie bombed. In fact nepo is rampant in Hollywood. City government too is notorious for doing this.

First, Jaden Smith was in more movies than that, without his father's help.

And lots of big budget movies bomb, especially in the Fantasy/Sci-Fi genres. You never know what is going to catch on when introducing a new property.

I don't believe any father is stupid enough to use his piloting skill just to get a job for his son as a pilot without qualifications. I can't say the same about DEI though. DEI within non critical roles, such as no endangerment to human lives, will continue regardless. The only way to find out whether DEI got that employee the job is when the employee screws up constantly. You can argue that there are no DEI hiring in critical roles but the damaged has been done. See a black pilot, engineer, executive, or doctor, probably a DEI hire. See lots of blacks in elite universities and less Asians, probably same conclusion. DEI should never allow to go into affect. Undoing the damaged is far harder than implementing the program.

Pilots have a lot bigger problems than DEI.

The problem isn't that DEI's screw up, it's that when a person of color doesn't fit into a job, everyone assumes that he was a DEI hire.

One of my ongoing theories about work is that there are no bad employees, just bad fits. Someone who does well in a certain environment can struggle in a different one. I've worked at companies for 6 or 7 years, never a complaint about my work performance. I've worked in companies where I only lasted a year or two, because it wasn't a good fit.

One of the biggest problems with the onboarding process is that you have no way of knowing if you will be a good fit or not.

You send out a resume (usually written by someone else), which is scanned by a computer. You may conduct two interviews before they decide to extend an offer.

Would you consider marrying someone after just two dates? Absolutely not, that would be crazy. However, we often take on jobs that require a multi-year commitment, based on two interviews.

I can go on rants for pages about how utterly broken the hiring system is. (And because I'm a resume writer, I am probably contributing to the problem.)

It shouldn't be forced on people though.
No one is forcing anyone to learn but it’s extremely ignorant to say learn English or else when more than half of the world’s population can speak two languages with small percentage can speak three. If you want to do business globally, it’s a plus. Just about all corporations and law firms have clients from all over the world. English alone won’t cut it.

Meh. The only thing I know is that, if someone wants to move into my country, he better learn to speak my language. I am not about to accommodate him by learning his language.

I won’t disagree with that but it’s still a plus to know multiple languages. There’s zero drawback. Uko or Joe already said this. Many jobs these days want multilingual applicants. The global economy is here to stay. No country, aside from N. Korea, is dumb enough to adopt an isolationist policy.

If I were an American, I would instead work on making my country's economy so kick-ass that I would not have to learn a second language just to compete.

Lots of people want that.

Not possible anymore. You're gonna need to deal with suppliers from all over the world. Your suppliers are also dealing with raw material producers from all over the world.

Not "just to compete." To compete better.

Zero drawback????? HAHAHAHA. What a stupid thing to say. Think of all the time spent learning that language. Time that could have been spent learning physics or math.

You don't see the stupidity with your statement? You do know that Asians can speak multiple languages and are good in math and physics, right?

Did someone who learned Physics waste time that could have been used to learn Math? Did someone who learned Math waste time that could have been used to learn the piano?
