This is what I mean by "economic necessity". If you would "lose out" if you didn't speak another language, then that means you're being forced to in some way.
This doesn't make sense. If they have operations in 80 countries, does that mean they need staff who speak a total of 80 languages? That would be ridiculous as well as inefficient. Best for all of these 80 countries to all learn one language, aka English, so they can communicate with their mother company.
I doubt they would fold. The domestic US market is a pretty big market. Anyway, stop trying to talk up the importance of foreign languages. I speak another language in addition to English, however, for all intents and purposes, I consider myself mono-lingual, as in, I am a sole English-speaker. And English alone has served me extremely well in Canada. I feel zero need to learn an additional language.
Only some people like learning a new language. A lot of people don't. And when people who don't like learning new languages are being forced to learn one, then yes, they are being culturally dominated.
