The Trump Admin announced that he is refusing to sign the Housing Bill - just approved - until Congress passes the SAVE ACT. The SAVE ACT currently does not have the votes to pass the Senate.

Trump cancels housing bill signing over Senate inaction on SAVE Act

President Trump canceled the signing of a bipartisan housing bill on Wednesday, saying he would not sign the legislation until the Senate passes the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act.

“Today’s Housing News Conference and Signing is hereby cancelled until such time as we pass the desperately needed SAVE AMERICA ACT, which I consider to be a National Emergency,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

The development underscores the tension between Trump and Senate Republicans on the SAVE America Act.

Trump has pressured Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) to abolish the filibuster in an effort to pass the legislation, something Thune has so far refused to do.

The Housing bill passed the House and Senate with large, veto-proof majorities, though if the president doesn’t sign the bill within 10 days and Congress adjourns, it could fall victim to a pocket veto.

Congress is scheduled to begin a two-week recess on Friday, though that will not be a formal adjournment. Senate leaders will schedule pro forma sessions over that recess.

The president’s relationship with Senate Republicans, including with Thune, has increasingly grown more tense after a string of clashes over what the party should do on certain issues.

Thune told reporters Wednesday after Trump announced he would not sign the housing bill: “At this point, I don’t have any observations about that.”

Yet further proof Trump is unfit to be president.

It's reprehensible and childish of Trump to refuse signing legislation because his failed, wrong-headed agenda won't pass.

I am not sure this is a good approach as it only hurts Trump as addressing housing was a big win for the GOP.

He is correct that your SAVE Act could prevent you from becoming the next failed, global socialist state but he needs to think about both sides of the coin. Take the W and find another means to force them to vote for the SAVE Act.

Johnson has promised to add the SAVE ACT via reconciliation 3, but the Senate has already said it can't be added via reconciliation.
Maybe modify the Act to make it acceptable? I know a crazy thought on my part.

If Obama makes people show an ID to get into his library, then you should show your ID to vote. You loons are always saying Trump is doing away with our democracy. Well over 80% of Americans want voter ID, so it's you loons doing away with our democracy.
Cool, but thats not the SAVE ACT.

Meh, if they want it that bad then they will get on board with the Safe Act.

Truth be told he should probably just veto the housing bill and save SCOTUS the time of declaring most or all of it unconstitutional.....Which it is. Feel good BS that will only serve to make Blackrock's lawyers rich.

It's called politics.

It's also called stupid. IMHO, this decision will cost him both houses of Congress, if he hasn't already lost them. Trump can piss and moan all he wants to, but he ain't getting that SAVE Act through Congress this year. Which is not to say some version of it oughta be enacted, but the reality is that now we not only don't get the SAVE Act but we ain't gonna get the Housing bill either. I don't see his political leverage here, especially since his approval numbers are dropping.

Even if the SAVE ACT were perfect, there is not enough time to get the processes enacted across 50 states.

Both Democrats and Republicans overwhelmingly support this.

In the House: 358 voted yes, 32 voted no.
In the Senate: 85 voted yes, 5 voted no.

The man-baby is throwing a man-baby hissy-fit over something that both sides actually agree to be good for America. It’s pretty pathetic.

For 2026 yeah, but maybe 2028? It's all academic anyway cuz I don't see this Congress bowing to Trump's will even though we oughta be doing something to restore trust in our election process. And don't give any crap about proof, enough distrust is there without any proof and that warrants action IMHO.
