The primary problem is not government bureaucracy but a lack of information as to where to send the checks coupled with the time to print and delivery checks. Anyone who has filed a 2018 or 2019 tax return or receives Social Security payments automatically deposited should have money in their bank account in April. Paper checks from the government will be delayed several weeks just like tax refunds by checks because of the time required to print checks and delivery them. Those that have not filed a tax return for 2018 or 2019 and do not receive social security are the ones that will not receive the money for months because they will have to file a claim.

Why do airlines even getting stimulus? They spent a decade shoving itself into harm’s way by strip mining their balance sheets to fund share buybacks and goose top executive stock options. Giving them stimulus is irresponsible and mind boggling. That’s because for decades upon decades this has been a highly cyclical industry vulnerable to global dislocations caused by recessions, storms, wars, terror and more. Accordingly, airline companies absolutely need deep equity balance sheets and ample standby liquidity, even at the expense of short term earnings. If banks are required to hold minimum to survive certain stress, so should airline companies.

Just to remind, instead of accumulating cash reserves for rainy days, big four companies (Delta, American, Southwest and United) wasted and recklessly spent more than 40 billion in cash on share buyback in past ten years, for the sole purpose of enriching the very shareholders that will now be bailed out by taxpayers.

If they can't raise enough cash in the high cost long term debt markets or by issuing preferred stock or equity, there is only one solution... chapter 11. Holy Moly, that’s why we have this legal protection procedure. And if they file it, they would still be running, just under different management, court appointed. Why not to let the gamblers and so called investors who piled into these stocks get their just deserts. That is, a 100% loss on their gambling stakes because that’s all it ever was when the big four’s combined market cap hit $130 billion compared to just $43 billion now.

And when those gamblers and investors lose their money and bankrupt, let them file class action suits against the idiots and clowns on the boards of directors who made such foolish decisions in the first place. Hopefully, these assholes would be legally stalked and harassed to the ends of the earth as an object lesson in the personal cost of imperiling corporate balance sheets to feather their own stock options nest.

The end will come when Covid 19 hospitals admissions within a state are falling and the number of new cases are falling. The governor in each state will make that decision just as they made the decision to shut down. The economy will not come back at the same time for every state and don't expect everything to open up at same time. I think it will be a couple of months before anything positive happens because the number of cases are increasing, not falling. I would not be surprised if in the Fall Covid 19 comes back accompanied by a second shutdown.

A better way to look at this is to look at the amount of money lost rather than how many people will die from covid19. It's far easier to replace people than it is to replace money once it's lost. If anything, the people who will die from this are older folks and those with compromised immune systems. Those sick and elderly people cost our economy lots of money every year. Lots of cost savings if we let this run its course. For every life we save we're losing tens of millions dollars. Is that really worth it? Most real Americans would say no, and they would gladly sacrifice themselves as their patriotic duty if that's what it takes to keep our county moving forward. If you are at home, you are not essential. Your job could most likely be done by dozens of others.
By "working from home", you're just earning money without risking to be infected. I agree, there are jobs that can be done remotely.

My job partially can be done that way. I can design automation system anywhere where I can fire up my laptop. But I cant debug the system, tune it, make sure it runs flawlessly without being on site. I still work on programs, however, if factories do not open for me to bring my systems in, and if there are no new orders for me to design and program, I will run out of work, which is gonna be pretty soon. I am not complaining, I have saved for rainy days, but there are many that haven't.

Although I have supplies at home for some time, I start running out of some things. Kids are at home, they're going thru the fridge and pantry like hurricane. No snack can last that long, no matter how much you have. So I have to go to the store from time to time and get fresh fruit, milk, eggs, snacks. I will make sure I distance myself from others, and use latex gloves if I have to... And than... bingo.

There are people working in stores, there are truck drivers delivering supplies to the stores, there are police cars parked nearby, gas stations are working. They all are making sure I can get food to my family. And you to yours. So here it is, why their lives are put at risk, and not yours, or soon mine?

And that is my point anyways. By doing partial shutdown, we're not doing anything useful. Economy suffers, and many who are working can still spread the virus. So people will get infected, some will die anyways, and we'll prolong the crisis. I think we should've done just as Sweden did. Social distancing, increase hygiene, wear gloves and mask if needed, and continue working. Either that, or stop absolutely everything in tracks for four weeks, infected will get sick and go out to hospitals, and virus will fade out. What we have is mixture of two that is hurting us both way, we're not routing out virus fast enough, and economy is hurting badly.
