Opinion: Liberals Should Welcome DeSantis rise: If Trump is a unique threat to democracy, they should be happy to see a GOP alternative to replace him

Democrats view every GOP president or presidential candidate as "a unique threat." It never gets old for them.

First president I was ever aware of was Nixon, who was driven out of office by the Media/Democratic Junta for crimes he knew that his two immediate predecessors had equaled or bettered (worsed?). Reagan was a crazy guy who would get us in a nuclear war with the Soviets. That prediction didn't age well. Bush 41 was a bumbler and cut deals with Iran to keep the hostages, Bush 43 was depicted as an asshole in Doonsbury, after Garry Trudea married a Network personality.

But we're supposed to believe that this time the Republican is rilly, rilly bad?

The only way Trump is different is that the GOP establishment hates him also. He cut into their lucrative scam of pretending to be for the exact values Trump advocates, while always allowing the Democrats to win.

He did not have an immigration policy. He did sabotage the immigration courts by not funding them. And they are the key to immigration policy. Everything simply backlogged during his administration. If you check the current records Biden is making progress on immigration.
Immigration courts are not the key to immigration policy. Securing the boarder is. If we dont' have a secure boarder we dont' have an immigraiton policy, other than unlimited immigration.

We don't have a policy on how much air people can breathe, because there is no way to control that. We don't have an immigration policy, because we choose not to control that.

Alternately, we could have three terms: Trump and then back-to-back DeSantis terms and that would put the liberals really on edge

excerpts:

By any reasonable standard, DeSantis’ supposed sins are peccadilloes compared to those of Trump.

There is no doubt that DeSantis reflects a new more Trumpian Republican Party, in his combativeness with the press, in his emphasis on cultural issues, in his willingness to use government power in the culture war, and in his ability to appeal to Trump voters.

Still, there is nothing aberrant about DeSantis. His state-of-the-state address this year, with freedom as its central theme, could have been delivered by a conservative Republican governor any time over the last 30 years

DeSantis may be Trumpy in notable respects, but, importantly, he doesn’t exhibit any of Trump’s character flaws.

He is tough on reporters, but he hasn’t engaged in any taunting or gratuitous insults.

He is a sharp political player, which isn’t unusual of powerful governors, but isn’t fundamentally driven by personal vendettas.

He hasn’t governed via tweet, with seat-of-the-pants edicts quickly reversed or forgotten when he’s talked out of them.

He is a voracious consumer of information and isn’t prone to ill-informed riffs

In all the ways that should matter, in short, DeSantis is better than Trump, and compared to the former president, he is reassuringly normal. In a better world, this would win him some grudging praise from unexpected quarters. Instead, because he’s a conservative Republican with some chance to be his party’s presidential nominee, he is ipso facto considered a threat to the republic
Libs are full of it

If DeSantis wins the repub nomination he will instantly become the devil incarnate in godless, butt fucking, child molesting lib la la land

No one is saying anything of the sort. The devil incarnate would be Ron DeSantis' bitch. :) Ron DeSantis is Donald Trump..but without all the bluster, baggage, and incompetence. DeSantis has never just popped his mouth off to get into a news cycle. He's careful. Measured. He could actually get legislation passed that would fundamentally make this country look like a third world dictatorship and would outlaw or silence anything or anyone what wasn't white, heterosexual, didn't carry a gun, or didn't believe in God. And he'd have the popular support to do it.

That's why I refer to him as Stillson. :)

So, IOW, You're afraid that DeSantis would do for, and to Democrats, what Democrats have been doing to Republican's for the past two Democrat Presidencies?

Great argument dummy....

Is that the goal? To put liberals on edge? I thought the goal was to make the country stronger. In order to do that Repubs and Dems need to compromise and make fact based decisions about what is best for our future. "Owning the libs" is the desire of juveniles..........which is what makes it so popular in the POT.

No....Democrats have shown us that "compromise" is NOT in their vernacular...Democrats are pathological liars, you can not "compromise" with a congenital liar...

What fantasy world do you live in? I remember Obama being elected and the right wing in this country absolutely losing their shit. I've never seen so much bile and vitriol leveled at one person. And he was a centrist. :auiqs.jpg:

You people believe in fantasy and conspiracy theories. You think Democrats eat babies and that school children shit in litter boxes.
Is it any surprise that the rest of us treat you the way we do? You've lost all sense of reason and reality. What do you say to people like this?

Democrats are never happy. They are miserable, bitter, hate-filled dictator/authoritarian wanna-bes who seek to control, oppress, and make everyone else miserable as well.

What do I say to people like you? Usually, "get help"....lol

That you believe Obama was, or is a centrist in any sense of the word, is laughable....A 'centrist' wouldn't want to "fundamentally transform" America....A 'centrist' wouldn't seek to divide like he did....

Nah, all Obama is, like you are, and like most Democrats are today is congenital liars...

When have Democrats ever compromised?

Not one centimeter of movement on the ACA, Gay Marriage or Sodomy Laws from the left over the years.

No Trump.

Run Desantis in 2024 and you'll take the White House.

Run Trump in 2024 and you will lose.

Guaranteed.

The Democrats are screwing-up big time and deserve the 'shellacking' that they're likely to get this coming Tuesday.

But do not confuse that 'shellacking' with a willingness to reinstall your arrogant, ignorant, low-brow, traitorous autocrat-wannabe again.

If you run Trump again you will lose your gains in the 2022 mid-terms as well as losing the White House.

Don't be fools... run Desantis in 2024... the nation can't take another four years of Sleepy Old Uncle Joe... unless there's nothing but Trump as an alternative.

You have been warned.

It remains to be seen whether Republicans have enough common sense (and ball$, to stand up to Trump) remaining to them to see the truth of it.

Oh, wow, two years before the election even takes place...That's some real crystal ball you have there....Unless ofcourse you're saying that if Trump wins the nomination, Democrats will cheat......again.

That's what the DNC thought when they decided to use money donated by Democrat donors to help Trumper candidates in the primaries:

'I got an ideer! Let's help them Trumpers defeat non-Trump Republicans, and then them Trumpers will be easy as pie to beat in the gen'al 'cause Trump is so far out of the mainstream!'

Now, the Trump-backed Republicas are set to scoop the House and the Senate.

GJ.

...That's some real crystal ball you have there....
It doesn't take a crystal ball.

Benedict Arnold was a well-respected and well-loved American general.

Right up to the split second when he betrayed his country.

Rump was (and is) well-respected and well-loved to a minority segment of the population.

And he was tolerated and accepted and voted-for by others beyond his base.

Right up to the split second when he betrayed his country on January 6, 2021.

It doesn't take a crystal ball.
Unless ofcourse you're saying that if Trump wins the nomination, Democrats will cheat......again.
You lie.

The Democrats did not cheat in the 2020 election to any extent sufficiently substantive to give you a victory.

You did not have the votes.

No surprise, after four years of idiotic tweets and opening his mouth without thinking and the White House having to paper-over his gaffes twenty times a week.

You had sixty-two chances in the law courts between November 2020 and January 2021, many cases appearing before GOP and even Rump-appointed judges.

All but one got thrown out... some of lack of standing... the rest for lack of merit... and nothing interesting came out of the single case to get a second look.

You clowns even conducted independent months-long audits in multiple jurisdictions and you didn't find a goddamned thing to indicate the election should be reversed.

You lost.

Your sissy-boy fragile-ego Orange Comb-Over standard bearer couldn't stand the idea of losing so he made-up $hit and suckered you clowns into spreading his Big Lie.

It's bull$hit... it's un-American... even un-manly... it's sissy-stuff.

Next time, field a better candidate... do a better job in getting out the vote in 2024... and act like Men if-and-when you lose... not Orange -tinted pu$$ie$.

You love some Jonny McCain...He is a lovable Repub. We will never accept that anymore. The evil that is Progs is showing itself now.
