One Of Trump's Unconstitutional EOs Is Being Raked Over the Coals By SCOTUS Tomorrow

However you want to spin it, do you support citizenship for the offspring of people in the country illegally?
Yes, or no?
I know the question wasn't directed at me, but I absolutely support birthright citizenship.

And so has the Supreme Court in the past, and so will this one.

Nativists are always on the losing side of history.

Is HAS worked that way up until now. The alien pregnant woman gets here before her child comes, she give birth in a U.S. hospital at taxpayer expense, and voila! She has a citizen anchor baby that cannot be deported. And because Americans won't be so heartless to send her home without the baby she gets to stay too. And then far too often she has been allowed to bring in her husband if she has one, parents, siblings, grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles. And if they can't support themselves the taxpayer does.

President Trump is doing what he can to remedy this situation. He should be aided and backed up by every honorable American.
You are thinking that you can have an honest discussion with the most dishonest people that exist.

That's a problem.

I appreciate the honest answer. I am on the other side of this, but certainly not adamantly.

Um...yes it did.

It was invented by bigoted nativists.
All words were at some point "invented". Even invent. The point being people didnt make up a word that didnt describe something. "Anchor babies" are an actual thing. Prior to someone calling them "anchor babies" they were called babies illegal aliens had to immunize themselves from deportation.

The term anchor babies was invented by bigots who wanted to paint a very specific picture in the minds of their fellow bigots.

Out of thin air.

Like "death panels".

It's emotional manipulation of the weak-minded.

Don't be weak-minded.

I think birthright citizenship is one of the things which make us a great country.

Exceptional, by definition.

They aren't, because it doesn't work that way.
of course it does. If there are 2 women the same age and skill set both illegal 1 has a kid who has birth right citizenship and the other has a kid who is a citizen of X country. We can only deport 1 of these women. Are you really arguing that the 1st woman wouldnt be far less likely to be deported than the 2nd? Are you really arguing that immigration lawyers dont use the fact that a person has a child who is at US citizen as a reason to not deport someone? Are you really arguing that illegal immigrants arent aware of this fact and are having children in the US for this reason? That someone with a child with birth right citizenship has been deported doesnt equate to people dont use their birth right citizen children to keep themselves from being deported.

Was the image of a person having a child in the US so that they would get birth right citizenship in order to wildly decrease their chances of being deported? Is that the image? Because that's what an anchor baby is.

I’m not seeing how it makes us exceptional/great, tbh. It’s an outdated concept that is often abused by those here illegally, imho.

Exceptional, by definition.
Why? What benefit does birth right citizenship have for the US?

I think the image promoted by bigots of illegals rushing here to plop down a baby is beyond dishonest.

These people are fleeing violence and terror. But they are the wrong color.

If you are white, Trump fast tracks your citizenship.

I find it interesting Trump is visiting Syria. There was foaming-at-the-mouth opposition to accepting Syrian refugees during Trump's first term.

These refugees were two kinds of offensive. Brown, and Muslim.

Trump suspends US refugee programme and bans Syrians indefinitely

I hope they point this out to him while he chows down on Big Macs.

There’s a word for people who see everything through the prism of race.

Some members seem to have blind spots or are deliberately obtuse only on some issues. Other times they can demonstrate good common sense. I don't know how they justify serious intellectual dishonesty on those other things though.

Do you even have a general clue of how many "people of the wrong" color immigrate here legally every year?

The US allows more legal immigration than any other nation on the planet by HUGE margin. Orders of magnitude difference. There are currently over 50.4 legal immigrants living in the US. Second place is Germany at 15.

Over a million people ever year. No one is saying people shouldnt be allowed to immigrate to the US. No on is saying "brown people" shouldnt be allowed to immigrate to the US. The majority of legal immigrants to the US are of Latin decent. All people are asking is that it's done LEGALLY. We have a process, if you want to be a citizen you should respect the process of the nation you wish to be a part of.

The waiting line is 14 years. If your life was in danger or your family was starving, would you wait 14 years?

Also, our quota system is seriously broken. We do not allow anywhere near enough labor supply to meet the demand.

Every time someone has tried to get some immigration reform passed, they are shot down. And that includes Republicans being shot down. Bush was shot down.

I mentioned Eric Cantor in another topic, or maybe it was this one.

Eric Cantor was primaried out of office for daring to submit an immigration reform bill. And he was the third highest ranking member of Congress at the time.

When a farmer needs his crops brought in, he is only allowed so many legal laborers which is not enough. He has no choice but to hire illegals.

Immigrants do the shit jobs Americans won't do.

Like Melania.

We are tied with China for third place in size.

We have so many immigrants because we feed the world.

And it is not enough. Ask any large scale farmer.

This case has very little to do with the 14th amendment

The issue is - can a single district court judge due what a single circuit court judge or a single SCOTUS justice can not do.

That should be any easy decision
