OK, enough of the DC pissing contest, it's time for good government, where are the adults? (Poll)

How will the current shutdown end?

  • Republicans win, go nuclear to pass CRs with 51 votes

    Votes: 6 46.2%
  • Democrats win as Republicans give in to their $1.5T demand

    Votes: 0 0.0%
  • Congress negotiates a compromise solution, similar to, or a variation of #3 below

    Votes: 1 7.7%
  • The shutdown drags on and both parties are criticized for not compromising

    Votes: 6 46.2%

  • Total voters
    13
Why do you have a problem with Republicans using the Democrats own tactics?

I've had a problem with this shutdown bull shit for decades.

Stop this partial slow down business. Make the government actually shut down - completely.

You will never see it again after the first time. Make it hurt.

WW

The Republicans "word" on agreeing to "negotiate" is highly suspect.

Remember when the OBBB was being "negotiated"? (And I paraphrase.)

"Sit down and shut up."

"There is a new sherrif in town."

"You lost, suck it butter cup."

"We don't need to negotiate."

"Elections have consequences, we won".
.
.
.
.
.
Then passed the OBBB via reconciliation with with a simple majority.

WW
So, there is a Dem or "not Dem" poster on here who blames Machin and Sinema for the passage of the OBBB.

Is she right?

Once again with your terminal bullshit! You cannot fully shutdown the US government. To think it is possible is like believing in ******* unicorns with them farting rainbows!

The filibuster is only good for major legislation,
I was comparing his action to the nuclear option. These types of moves work when they are used, but they also have consequences down the road when the opposition pulls them out maliciously or capriciously. Neither is good. SMH. The sign of pretzel logic is when someone latches on to one word to distract from the actual meaning of the post.

The BBB cut about $1.5T off Biden's last budget. google it.
FACT: Of course, the $1.7 trillion savings is partly offset by one-time spending on border security and additional tax cuts (NO TAX ON TIPS, NO TAX ON OVERTIME) — which brings the net deficit reduction to exactly $1.407 trillion.

The revenue loss would be partially offset by nearly $1.3 trillion in reduced federal spending elsewhere, namely through Medicaid and food assistance.

Democrats Move to Reverse $1 Trillion Medicaid Cuts

Part of that 1.5 Trillion dollar cut was not allowing people who crossed the border illegally and then got "legal status" to get ACA subsidies or Medicaid.

Do you want to see that put back, as the Democrats are demaning in their version of a CR?

The Federal government shutdown has been going on for more than a week with no end in sight.
Republicans say pass the "clean CR", period.
Democrats say "put back the $1.5T of spending that was cut by the BBB, including restoring the ACA subsidies", period.

The problem is that we have too many lawyers and not enough "genius" in congress, we need "Problem Solvers", not "ideologues".

If congress was working in private industry there would be no shutdown, that wastes money, a deal would have been cut already, "one way or another".

Republicans are the majority, they need to push for a solution to end the shutdown:
1. Go nuclear and say "CRs only need 51 votes". A very wimpy solution, it just guarantees more CRs
2. Go nuclear for CRs, Appropriations, and Rescission Bills. A less wimpy solution, but it may bite them in the ass in the future.
3. Publish a proposed deal, let the MSM grade it, and dare the democrats to walk away.
Go for a "WIN-WIN Grand Bargain" that solves several of the major problems, Republicans should put these on the table:
a) Fix Social Security by raising the cap and adding 2-years to the early & full retirement ages
b) Fix Medicare (going bankrupt)
c) Give the ACA subsidy at 50% of the current Covid subsidy (half a loaf)
d) Pay for the subsidy by raising the top tax rate to 40%, Trump agrees, it helps balance the budget.
e) Appropriations Bills and CRs only need 51 votes to pass. (solves future unnecessary shutdowns)

If the democrats don't put up a suitable counter offer, just go with option #2. End the shutdown now.

Stand-off continues more than a week into the government shutdown

What is it about certain types that need a concensus? I don't get it.

People, even entire countries, that feel the need for concensus are fooling themselves.

A Ship can only have one Captain, a Country can only have one leader. A Battle can only have one General. Or in the case of Swabbies, one Admiral. Whatev

A good example is 1941 Japan. They were better than us in every way. Better Ships, better aircraft, better and more experience infantry. Their personal infantry weapons sucked ass but that's another story....

So what happened to the Japanese? Some of the most fierce, bravest, steadfast people we've ever fought? If 500 Japanese were told to hold a position, you had to kill 495 of them and the last 5 committed suicide. Very tough people.

I'll tell you what happened to them..... Their need to find concensus in almost everything they did. Like the attack on Midway. Which is where they lost the War.

The Army wanted to do one thing, the Navy another. There was infighting about whether to have a diversion force invade Alaska and -- They did. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid move.

There was no need. they out-smarted themselves. They should have just Bulled their way onto Midway and moved on from there. But we got lucky, REAL Lucky and sank four of their Carriers. They could have used those two Carriers they foolishly sent to the Aleutians. They weren't front line carriers but that's beside the point.

And they did this throughout the War. Too much concensus seeking. Like they're afraid to take all the blame if they fail.

Leaders LEAD. Followers follow. Nothing wrong with being a follower. They might be more important than the Leaders. Without followers who can carry out orders and get things done, nothing else matters.

Sorry to be so long-winded but, people...... We don't need a concensus and we fer GODAYUM sure don't need another ******* poll.

end rant :dunno:

There is something to be said about the fact that if the illegal beaners don't get the ACA, they just go to the E-Room anyway and get their treatments/medicine for free there. Then Medicaid reimburses the Hospital and Doctor or they Cost-Shift it onto the rest of us.

At least, if they buy into the ACA, we're getting something.

I'm happy to see us get something. My idea to make that happen is to tax their remitances, which is money they wire to their home countries.

I have to think that somehow they would game the system so that they did not pay into the ACA. If they could not, they would work off the books and rely on Medicaid anyway.

So the option for most would be Emergency Room care only, or Medicaid as if they were American Citizens.

American Remittances back to beanerville are Mexico's largest source of Income.

Bigger than their manufacturing, Tequila exports, even their Oil Exports.

Julio comes up here, works his ass off (some of them are seriously hard workers) sends the money home to Maria to put in the bank for him, he goes home and lives like a King for years.

Same thing with Juan(more time). He may be able to send it directly to his bank.

Those beaners have no intention of being good American Citizens. They don't like it here, they don't like us. All they want is American Green Backs.

dimocrap FILTH don't care because their constituents use them as cheap labor. And the dimocrap FILTH Cheat Machine uses them to steal elections.

They don't care anymore about the illegals as people than they do about any other people. Look what they're doing to Jews? Once their biggest, most reliable backers. And still stupid enough to be some of the biggest PAC Contributors the dimocrap FILTH machine has.

Look who's putting up all that money to support Jay Jones, Ms Simons. If her name sounds Jewish, you win a prize.

But the dimocrap FILTH Party is the ones behind all the Anti Semitism that went around last Winter until Trump put a stop to it.

Will Jews repay him ?? :auiqs.jpg: :auiqs.jpg:

I agree that the GOP is not making a counter-offer. Nor would Democrats in a similar situation.
The problem for the Democrats in all this is that it is (generally speaking) their constituents who rely on the federal government for their assistance with living if not their entire livelihood, whereas Republican constituents largely see the federal government as a bloated, money-draining behemoth that they are more than happy to do without for a few months.
I tend to disagree. The US military, air-traffic controllers, and other low paid families need their pay.
Republicans look / are incompetent by not negotiating, or at least threatening the nuclear option, my #2 in the OP.
IF the Republicans never use the nuclear option, they may end up offering a token compromise for one man - Senator Schumer - to save face. I don't know if the Democratic Party establishment will allow him to accept a compromise that does not include tax-funded healthcare for illegal aliens who were given "legal status" the last administration. I don't think the Republicans will ever accept it if it does give those illegals-turned-"legal" free healthcare.
We will NEVER accept taxpayer dollars for illegals. Possibly put back some of the ACA subsidy, but its that or get nuked.

Where is the option for the Democrats to cave and slither back under the nearest rock?
They won't do that. They are getting their pay. The MSM can put the "clean CR" vs "put back the ACA subsidies" on TV every day, but it doesn't matter, we're just punishing military families and air-traffic controllers, etc.

The Republicans don't need a counter offer after the House passed a clean CR. The choice is for the Democrats to take it or leave it. That is their counteroffer, and is exactly as it should be?
...the democrats left it, at 55 votes, 5-short of passing. So Republicans need to negotiate to get to 60 senate votes, or go nuclear.

Exactly.
IF Republicans negotiate some ACA subsidy for poor Americans, like MTG's kids, but there will be no money for illegals.

So you will be very happy after we develop a "super-intelligent" AI who will guide our every move perfectly?

We don't have that yet, so we're stuck with stupid politicians running congress, and Trump in the WH.

Then there is that US Constitution that are the basic rules of the game.

We don't have a negotiated "consensus" in DC, we count votes.

p.s. Japan lost WW2 because our code breakers broke their code and knew, with a lot of luck, where to hit their carriers.
