Ballot initiatives to enshrine abortion as part of the state's constitution have passed in a number of states following the SC decision on Roe. Most notably in KS, a deeply red state, where it passed by a 59-41% majority.

Pro-choice folks in OH want their own ballot initiative.

In the wake of GOP Supreme Court sweep, Ohio activists plan abortion ballot initiative

When Republicans swept all three races for the Ohio Supreme Court on Tuesday, they swept away hopes that the court would find that the state Constitution protects the right to an abortion.

So on Wednesday, abortion-rights activists were strategizing over when and how to get a measure on the ballot that would amend the Ohio Constitution to specifically say abortion rights are protected.

“It’s a when,” said Kellie Copeland, executive director of Pro-Choice Ohio. “It’s not an if.”

In order to prevent a simple majority of Ohioans to make a choice on abortion law in their state the Repub controlled state legislature is proposing that the threshold for passage of a ballot initiative be changed from 50% majority to 60%. But here's the best part........

Ohio Republicans want a taller wall for those who disagree on abortion, gerrymandering

LaRose and state Rep. Brian Stewart, R-Ashville, want to require 60% of voters to enact citizen-led amendments, instead of a simple majority of 50% plus one vote. The concept ironically would require a change to the constitution itself with only majority approval.

The lesson for OH Repubs, of course, is if you think the people will vote for something you don't want them to vote for........make it harder for voters to pass it. Use your power to thwart the will of the majority.

And in case you missed it, Republicans also moved last week to make voting more difficult in Ohio by making it harder to update voter registrations, enacting earlier deadlines for absentee voting and banning curbside voting for the elderly and disabled. They also made an aggressive move to strip most powers from the publicly-elected Ohio State Board of Education and give them to the governor.

Welcome to Repub's perverted version of democracy.

Yup I live in this god forsaken state and cannot believe the shit they are doing to subvert democracy.

But shouldn't be settled by a simple majority of the citizens in those states? The Repub controlled state legislature in OH has a problem with democracy.

When you run to the courts over things like this, so do you.

The irony of your inability to see this makes me laugh, 50% at the situation, and 50% at you directly.

Stop whining. Prove OH has a problem with democracy. I'm not seeing a problem, just an outcome you don't like.

Isnt that exactly what Roe did?

This with a near equal split Congress passing pure agenda driven party derived mandates the last two years. Problems are problems. We all love worse than ever.

People like the OP are, as my Japanese husband said in the ancient tongue of his ancestors, kururessu.
Mr. Miyagi would agree.

My reading comprehension is fine. Tell me what "want to require" means to you? So there is no problem with democracy yet, is there?

But you were happy when 9 unelected officials who dont answer to the electorate in any way made the decision you agreed with right?

It's funny how you didnt think this issue should be settled "democratically" until it went a way you didnt agree with.

Sad abortion activist weren't aborted. They are now enjoying the benefits anti abortionist have fought for.

Of course there is. The mere act of proposing, by a gerrymandered legislative super majority, a change to the state's constitution that allows for an extra burden for passage of any citizen sponsored initiative is fundamentally anti-democratic.

Sad abortion activist weren't aborted.
So, to use the language of those who would use the power of the state to force women to have a baby against their will, you would have preferred if those babies were killed?
