Obamacare overcharged healthy & young people that needed insurance to help fund the cost of insurance for sick people

Every iota of your politics is that of either the free lunch or the broken window...You neo-Leninists know nothing else.

Actually, my politics is pragmatic. I go with what works.

Health care works in most of the rest of the industrialized world better than it works here.

They spend less,
They live longer
less of their babies die in infancy
and a medical crisis doesn't cause 62% of bankruptcies.

People on "insurance" are expecting everything to be paid for, including regular checkups....Especially freebooters like you who want "universal coverage".

You say that like it's a bad thing.

In your world, people would avoid going to the doctor for that cold until it escalates into full-blown pneumonia.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

It is no wonder some people are skeptical about public healthcare. As with public education, it can be considered essential for a democracy to have healthy, educated citizens. Yet, over time, what has happened to the public education system is a cautionary tale. In other words, and as with so much in life, attention must be paid so that things run correctly.

Obamacare has wrecked the health care of Americans because it is masked socialism.
It gave coverage to some by raising costs on most other people.

That’s the way insurance works. Those that don’t need it finance those who do.

Poll: Most of the Public Support Extending the ACA’s Enhanced Premium Tax Credits, Including Most Republicans and MAGA Supporters

Premiums paid by folks who don't incur medical expenses form a reserve to cover the medical expenses of those that do.

That is how insurance works.

Sixty-two percent of U.S. adults, the highest percentage in more than a decade, say it is the federal government’s responsibility to ensure all Americans have healthcare coverage.

Should the taxpayers pay your premiums?

Government doesn’t provide the insurance. Single-payer would save money.

In that case govt is literally the insurer. So yeah, your healthcare is "free" (it's not but....)

BUT

You wait weeks, months, even years for needed care. It's just another way rationing plays out.

But a question for you: would you be in favor of single payer IF--and only IF--no illegal aliens were allowed to access it? You have to be a LEGAL US citizen to obtain care?

Just curious... You ask a binary question, but there are other possibilities.

What about legal aliens?

That was a feature not a bug. They said that was the only way to make it kind of work when they were passing it.

If you're paying taxes here you should be able to access health care.

Just as a reminder.

Originally the ACA had a mandate, if you didn't have health insurance (either through an employer, individual policy, or through the ACA), there was a penalty imposed at tax time. The intent of the revenue from the penalty was to ensure that younger people who thought they didn't need health insurance contributed.

But that funding mechanism was killed in 2017 when the Congress set the penalty to $0, effectively killing.

Now one knows, but one would think that subsidies would be lower with a wider insurance pool (because younger people got policies) or more revenue was generated (through the penalty).

No I'm not advicating either way. Just pointing out there was a revenue stream that was intended to defray costs, and that revenue stream was ended.

Thank you. Appreciate it.

And I agree.

One more question. Which taxes? Federal Income, State Income, Locality, Sales, Property?

Would citizens that don't pay taxes be excluded?
