One of the causus belli used as pretext by Putin was the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO. Now that such has been renounced, will Putin be able to save enough face to stop.

There are other countries ahead of them in line and they’d have to improve in some areas before they would qualify as members. That being said, when they meet the criteria I’d welcome them with open arms, regardless of what Russia thinks.

Well in this case we created this problem for Ukraine and made promises we cant keep. They wouldnt be in this position otherwise. Now that does confer some responsibility to help them but they should have never trusted Obama to begin with,

The question was/is whether this is the element that gives Putin a way out.

Why would Putin trust the word of someone who already broke the same agreement once? Are invasions of Ukraine going to be required every time some corrupt jackass decides to break such promises? Disarmament seems the most prudent course.

I agree, Russia should disarm.

Russia should disarm, as should many others.
