No food stamps for any family of a striking worker

Once again Republicans do everything they can to stack the deck against workers ability to negotiate

Hey RW....let me ask you this....

You are a member of a union. You get paid 20 an hour to screw on a bolt on an assembly line.

So does Joe...the man right next to you.

You both get the same salary (per union contract).
You both get 6 sick days a year.
You both get paid if you are unable to attend work due to inclimate weather.

You are both sick 2 days one year and you both take off those days. As the year approaches the end, Joe tells you "I still have 4 sick days so I am calling in sick next week"
You dont call in sick....as you have the right asttitude....they are for being sick...not for vacation.

During the year, it snowed 3 times....never more than a couple of inches and you had no issue getting to work. Joe, by contract, was allowed to say the snow prevented him from getting to work....even though you know he has a 4 wheel drive SUV.

So all in all, Joe took off 7 more days than you....and made the same amount of money as you.

Year ends...and time for raises. Being part of the union, Joe gets the same exact raise you got.

WHat are you going to do next year?

Sure...you will say "I will do nothing different"....just so you can win the argument.

But you are full of shit if you do.

The general result is most if not all will trend to the lowest acceptable work ethic.

Thus why unions are an issue.

So workers shouldn't stand up for a clean working environment and livable wages because of a poor job market? So businesses should be allowed to lower wages and get rid of benefits?

These rich people got rich on the backs of American workers. So the American workers ask for a fair cut for their work, and you say NO WAY!!!! ALL THE MONEY IS MINE MINE MINE.

And you are okay with that? Thats ridiculous.

You are truly a stupid ideologue.

Why on earth would a company want to lower wages and et rid of benefits?
Most corporations offer good wages and benefit packages to entice a better caliber employee.
Oh wait... Im sorry, you probably know nothing about that. :eusa_whistle:

Those evil rich people you joke about.... if ya hadnt noticed..... they pay you wages dumbass.

Grow the **** up :cuckoo:

So Wal Mart pays really well? I don't think so.

Yes for educated people. Yes I have what you might call a real job. I like to teach, but I also know that some of my students are made for that. Parents aren't happy that I say their son or daughter isn't really fit for college. But I tell them that if they specialize in a certain skilled labor, they will be more happy.

Some kids like to have things in their hands and do something. Some like myself, like to broaden my horizons, read and learn. I like to do that. We need labor in this country, but you keep lowering the initial wage like the cartels are doing. Its going to reduce our purchasing power, reducing the ability to take care of their families.

Its very bad news for America when we don't pay our workers decent, livable wages.

Illegal immigration lowers wages. And you are right about the fact that not every child can grow up and be a doctor or rocket scientist. For years, children have been told that to go into the trades was less then desirable. It sounds like you are a teacher who can appreciate the fact that the books you like to read need to be printed, so we need press operators, and the ones that are not available for your kindle need to be shipped so we need shippers, and the crappers you sit on while you read need to be kept in working order so we need plumbers. In my opinion, the kids who fit into this bracket should be taught that going to the trades is just as important as being a doctor, and to be worth what they want to be paid. A union is not needed for this. As a matter of fact, they contribute to the decline in the quality of the American worker and product. The unions are just another cartel sucking the funds of the worker. Just look at Dick Trumka.

Most of us negotiate our positions just fine on our own without having a Union thug speaking for us.

No you don't

It is unions or the threat of forming a union that gives workers the ability to negotiate. It is the ability to strike as a group that enables workers to level the playing field

How level is the playing field now?
Worker salaries have been stagnant for 20 years while management salaries and profits have escalated

What dumb ***** like JFK don't realize is that workers DO fight for better wages, work environments, benefits et... the power is in the CHOICE of where to work.. the power to say no to a job offer... the power to quit and work where the benefits and compensation match what you want... it's called freedom...

Unions are as corrupt as can be... and while there was a time for them, when labor laws were practically non-existent and when we had the 'robber barons'... that time is long past... just as many other things that brought needed change have also gone to the wayside after the change was brought to society....

Keep beliving that. That's a really arrogant statement that you make.

It is an interesting fable and reflects the fact that not every worker has the same work ethic. Management likes to group non-union workers also. In negotiations they will tell you you are asking for more than anyone else gets. Try bringing up your sick leave usage when you ask for a raise

Republicans have a clear agenda. In a time when families are struggling to get by, republicans are trying to ensure that they don't have the tools to negotiate higher salaries.

Those tools are the right to collectively bargain and the right to strike

Unions always insist on stupid rules

They even wanted to require two air traffic controllers in the tower at any given time. How stupid is that?

OOPs.........zzzzzzzzzz

Ehhhhhhh.. wrong answer.. please see Don Pardo for some lovely parting gifts...

There are a plethora of workers, including myself, that have no union presence ANYWHERE near the jobs we work... there is no threat of any corrupt union that drives my compensation nor is there any union giving me any power to negotiate... that power, unlike in the cases of sheep like yourself, is entirely MINE

ThinkProgress » Buried Provision In House GOP Bill Would Cut Off Food Stamps To Entire Families If One Member Strikes

Want to talk about class warfare?

The republicans in congress have written into a bill a provision that anyone related to a striking worker will have their food stamps taken away.

So a single Mom can have her food stamps taken away for trying to strike for enough pay to get off of food stamps.

The right is full on against ANY workers rights.

Why do they hate the vast majority of Americans?

What a shock. The GOP is trying to make it more difficult for the American worker to fight back.

And I was just longing for the Robber Baron days to come back too.

Looks like my wish is coming true!

That is the key, and have something to go to the table with and you will succeed. Libs call conservatives mind slaves ans zombies, yet it is them who join the collective ans stand around waiting for there unions to think for them, and then expect a hand out from the tax payer when they strike because they dont get an espresso machine in the break room and two more sick days a year.

Espresso machine?

Typical right wing rhetoric. Try food on the table, your kids education, healthcare, your retirement benefits.

These are the issues workers care about and the rightwing is trying to erode

You mistake tough love for hate.

No he is mistaking indifference for hate.

The masters do not hate the people, they just don't care one way or the other.

Cannot justify it. Mans got a job. Decides not to work,, but to strike. He should not receive one dime in the form of foodstamps from the taxpayers, he wants food? he should work for that food just like the taxpayers do.

Yup. You better not strike and try to get a better deal, American worker. The GOP is making sure your family will have to struggle as much as possible if you dare.

If the unions care so much about their dues payers then they can feed the people who refuse to work.

Why should the 88% of workers who aren't in a union foot the grocery bill for the 12% who choose to go on strike?

Traditional Values.....corporate-style.

"With this material he (Bennett) built up a small army of goons who kept the workers under complete control. Anyone doing anything naughty, like talking union, was beaten to a pulp and fired for starting a fight."

Bull-Shit! Then why is there a need for a government union? Government pay & benefits are double the private sector so there is absolutely no need for public sector unions.

likewise...BULLSHIT.....UPS makes 5 dollars more an hour than what a USPS Carrier makes......

That USPS Carrier has a much better pension, medical, and more time off than the UPS carrier

bullshit...i talk to no less than 3 drivers who intersect my route.....those guys are Teamsters and their benefits are pretty dam decent.....try again Jack....

Blue collar or white collar?

Unions = No collar. Unions cause more unemployed & homeless as jobs are off-shored to Thailand, China & Vietnam. Look how well it worked for Detroit. They lost 25% of their economy, population & jobs in less than 10 years thanks to unions. That is a mass exodus.
