Newest sr WH aide apologizes for comparing R's to Jonestown cult

Now this really doesn't surprise me that this is what Podesta and other whacked out progressives think of conservatives and I don't give a flying rat's ass that he gave a hollow apology.

What does continually floor me is that the R leadership in Washington thinks that these people are to be trusted in any way shape or form or that R's stand a snowballs chance in hell of really truly working together with these left wing lunatics.

I wish Boehner and McConnell would finally "get it". I know, I know there's no hope there.

Progressives hate our guts and no matter how much you give them on a platter they are never satiated AND they will still hate us and mock us and deride us and slag us.

Here's the story. And he can take his apology and shove it where the sun don't shine. I don't believe for one minute that he's sorry.

John Podesta, the Obama administration's latest key personnel addition, was forced to apologize to Republicans on Wednesday for a remark that compared them to a murderous cult that killed more than 900 adults and children in 1978.

In an interview conducted before President Obama announced his return to the White House, Podesta told Politico magazine that the president should take a harder line against Republicans who are slowing down Democrats' agenda in the House of Representatives.

'They need to focus on executive action given that they are facing a second term against a cult worthy of Jonestown in charge of one of the houses of Congress,' Podesta told the startup magazine.

you beat me to it :D

Are you geniuses not aware that the expression 'drinking the Koolaid' is a direct reference to the Jonestown mass suicide?

So all of you rightwing nuts who have accused liberals of drinking the Koolaid should now apologize for such a heinous remark.

I have to admit, you have a point. I was wondering what context he could possibly have been speaking in, but I guess this makes a bit of sense.

On that note, the truth is that there are just as many cultist mentality Democrats. But we in the GOP have allowed the wrong people on our side to speak out the loudest. I hope that Boehner keeps working to take back the reigns from the CINO-RINOs.

no, he does not. he is just being an example of the leftard ignorance, as usual :D
the jonestown cult was extreme leftist in origin

"Jonestown" was the informal name for the Peoples Temple Agricultural Project, a communist intentional community in northwestern Guyana formed by the Peoples Temple under the leadership of Jim Jones
A total of 909 Temple members died in Jonestown, all but two from apparent cyanide poisoning, in an event termed "revolutionary suicide" by Jones and some members on an audio tape of the event and in prior discussions. The poisonings in Jonestown followed the murder of five others by Temple members at Port Kaituma, including United States Congressman Leo Ryan. Four other Temple members died in Georgetown at Jones' command.

The best test of a cult is to look at how they treat heretical behavior. We do not have to look very far for instances where a slight break from the remarkably monolithic belief structure of conservatives results in accusations of RINO and calls for a more pure primary challenger. Orthodoxy breeds cultish behavior and republicans, especially the tea party, are without mercy for those who act with any kind of moderation.

holy smokes

This is YOUR GOVERNMENT folks who is hurling all these hostile INSULTS about you

If it's not this they are calling you, hostage takers, terrorist, teabaggers, etc etc

people better wake up and see who it REALLY is that is Dividing this country..

What does that have to do with the OP, jerk off?

The apology was basically for being caught saying it. I dont doubt that every member of the administration believes what Podesta said. I dont doubt they sit behind closed doors and call House GOP members troglodytes and whackos. Who was it who said he wanted to change the tone in Washington? Yeah, that was a lie too.

Was it a lie? Seems to me he changed it very much for the worse.

I agree that what John Podesta said was not very pleasant, and his future is not to be coveted by anyone, particularly if he forgets himself again when the walls have ears.

If he can pull President Obama's head out of the redistribution gutter, however, tell the greenies to amscray, and mend fences first with the military community, then the viable energy businesses to the point of their prosperity and profitability in America, relieving the pressure of health costs on businesses of all sizes, and resolve the honesty at the polling places issues that have arisen in the last 30 years, I could forgive a lot of wrong.

And if he helps restore the nation to a trust in each other again, I can forgive the Clinton travesties he participated in.

Until then, I'm going to be like Missouri--show me first.

The only reason Obama hired him was because he specializes in political/personal attacks.
I just reread tinydancer's post, and under his picture is the caption:

Apparently, John Podesta's career centers around obeisance to George Soros who feels his Communist revolution is crumbling and expects John Podesta to make sure it doesn't completely disintegrate, but goes forward.

What was I thinking?

Here's the low down:

John Podesta, climate hawk and Keystone opponent, joins Obama team. He has been running the government all along only from down the street at George Soros’s communist think tank – Center for American Progress

John Podesta is no stranger to the White House; he served as chief of staff to President Clinton. And he’s no stranger to the Obama team; he led the president’s transition into office after the 2008 election. Since then, he’s served as an “outside adviser,” The New York Times reports, and “has occasionally criticized the administration, if gently, from his perch as the founder and former president of the Center for American Progress, a center-left public policy research group that has provided personnel and policy ideas to the administration.”
For the coming year, he’ll be advising from the inside. He will help out on health care and “will focus in particular on climate change issues, a personal priority of Mr. Podesta’s,” according to the Times. Podesta is expected to encourage Obama to take action through his executive authority, as Congress is unwilling and unable to pass legislation on climate change or much else. “Podesta has been urging Obama for three years to use the full extent of his authority as president to go around Congress,” Politico reports.
Podesta is also an outspoken opponent of Keystone, and his move to the White House is making some Keystone boosters nervous, National Journal reports.*

So much for the possibility he would lay off the communistic push of the present administration, he's apparently there to strengthen it. :(

And he's a Climate Change Fanatic, which means the Green Energy Hoax that began as Global Warming and goes on as Climate Change will keep on keeping on demanding the Greenie Armored Cars stay lined up 100 deep at the US Treasury doors for more green swindling of the American Taxpayer.

Now I'm really worried.

The Jonestown mass-suicide killed 900 in 1978 after (socialist)cultists opened fire on a congressional delegation

Yes, and U. S. Representative Leo Ryan was the first and only Congressman to be killed in the line of duty. :( I remember when the news of that hit the airwaves. I felt sick to my stomach, and it didn't get better as details about the koolaid deaths of so many children and Americans came out. It was a horror I've thought of many times over the years, never realizing that I, as a Republican who supports fiscal conservatism, would be lumped in as somehow associated with murdering children that the historic episode was. What a sick mind would say that. I'm not so sure the mouthing of inanities that sound like a good lawyerly apology is enough to guarantee that this man would influence the sitting President to get along better with conservatives, who are a peace-loving lot, and not a murderous cult. It's the communists who have to eventually start serially murdering masses of human beings to maintain their shaky power.

Communism's grim statistics:

In Death by Government, R. J. Rummel estimates the total Soviet death toll at just under 62 million. You can see the breakdown here. That breakdown shows 11.4 million deaths under Collectivization, which would include the Ukrainian Famine, also known as the Holodomor.
In Robert Conquest’s definitive The Harvest of Sorrow: Soviet Collectivization and the Terror-Famine (based on hundreds of sources of information, including dozens of interviews with famine survivors), he puts the total for the entire Collectivization/”De-Kulakization” period (including the Ukranian Famine, the Soviet suppression of the Kazakhs and the Crimean Tartars, etc.) at 14.5 million.
The Final Report of International Commission of Inquiry Into the 1932–33 Famine in Ukraine produced by The Stockholm Institute in 1990 came up with a total of 7.5 million.
The Black Book of Communism came up with a smaller total of 4 million for the Holodomor, and 2 million for Dekulakization, as well as a total communist death toll of 94 million (smack dab in the middle of the 85-100 million death toll estimate in the summary), broken down as follows:
65 million in the People’s Republic of China
20 million in the Soviet Union
2 million in Cambodia
2 million in North Korea
1.7 million in Africa
1.5 million in Afghanistan
1 million in the Communist states of Eastern Europe
1 million in Vietnam
150,000 in Latin America
10,000 deaths “resulting from actions of the international communist movement and communist parties not in power.”
Rummel, by contrast, came up with the following estimates in Death By Government:
62.9 million in the Soviet Union
32.9 million in the PRC while in power, plus an additional 3.5 million killed by the communist Chinese before taking control
2 million in Cambodia
1.7 million in Vietnam
1.5 million post-WWII Poland
1 million in Tito’s Yugoslavia
plus a suspected 1.6 million in North Korea
If I added that up correctly, that comes out to 103.6 million people. (Rummel’s overall total for the 20th century includes murder and genocide carried out by non-communist regimes.)
In light of more recent scholarship, Rummel has adjusted his estimate of Mao’s victims upwards from 38,702,000 to 76,702,000. (Note: I do not own Rummel’s Statistics of Democide, which goes into considerable statistical detail concerning how he arrived at his estimates.)
In Jasper Becker’s Hungry Ghosts, he estimates Mao’s victims at 30-80 million.
Pretty much all the sources on the Khmer Rouge genocide give estimates in 1-3 million range, most around 2 million.
Ethiopia’s deposed Marxist dictator Mengistu Haile Mariam is one of the few communists actually convicted of genocide in a court of law.
In summation: Communism probably killed at least 85 million people, and might have killed as many as 140 million people.

His comments are no different that those on here who call us 'cool aid drinkers.' That is a reference to Jonestown. They use it all the time. Never mind that a USMB poll showed conservatives to have more education, and be more charitable with our OWN money than leftists.

You clearly don't understand cults. The political parties in the US are founded upon certain precepts. They have every right to expect that those who would get elected under the banner of those particular precepts adhere to them. The democrats do the very same thing.

No he doesn't, he simply pointed out the truth.

You on the other hand make a false assumption in order to try and sound like an intellectual. (it isn't working)

Damn, to bad it took so long for the WH to figure out just how fucked up you rethugs really are. And now here come a man who is willing to say it. Fuck his apology. The truth is the truth and now this guy is trying to be politically correct. Screw that.

Guess Obama still has some delusions about being able to work with Rethugs. To bad.
So you consider all people of conscience and fiscal conservatism that strives to keep the nation in good financial shape as thugs?

But you have solidarity with those that poopooed and pissed on the squad cars during Occupy Wall Street as upstanding citizens.

Got it.
