I know “you guys did it too” is your best defense but the facts do not support you. Yes, the north was racist about blacks.
But they did not institutionalize racism like the south did
Nonsense, the North was just as prejudiced if not more so than the South. The old Northern Cities drew lines for where certain races and nationalities could and could not live. That, my good friend, is institutionalized.
I lived on the North Side of Chicago from the mid-'40's to the mid-'50's. I never met a black person. The only black people I saw in our entire neighborhood were those who picked up the garbage in the alley and those who delivered coal for the furnace in our apartment building.
We moved to Miami in the mid-'50's. Guess what, I met blacks for the first time. I was 9 years old.
