President Joe Biden is allowing police to become more of a threat to black Americans than former President Donald Trump ever did, at least in one aspect, Black Lives Matter now claims.

The vast majority of what BLM stands for is rotten to include their name but on this specific issue they are correct. There is a great deal of expensive high tech militry hard ware for war fighting which is practically given to police departmants all over the country.
In fact the irony is that it is not so much black communities who have PDs with this equipment but usually more affluent white communities who have a PD with sophisticated war fighting gear. The system is set up so that police departments can acquire such equipment for the cost of shipping.
Of course this goes way back. As soon as the military develops new weapons to fight wars with police adapt it for their uses.
There will always be a need for upgraded technology for the police to use and the ability to respond to emergencies but it can go to far and it seems to have gone too far now.
The problem with having military capabilities is that they WILL be used. SWAT teams, as we understand them< were first formed after the whitman shootings in texas. They made sense as the average street officer is not equipped or trained to deal with such threats. At first such emergency teams were held in reserve. They would only be called out during very dire emergencies. The rest of the time they simply trained and stood ready. Then came the war on drugs and politicians along with police chiefs demanded aggressive action and SWAT teams were deplaoyed to serve warrants based on the assumption thaqt serving a warrant at a known crack house was dangerous.
Many problems grew out of this however. The criteria for serving a warrant with a no knock raid by SWAT team began to loosen more and more to the point that it became the norm to send in the storm troopers everywhere and anywhere.
Of course this led to many innocent deaths when a typo or other mistake sends them to the wrong home and they kill innocent people. This happens more than people realize. Essentially the war on drugs is a war on the american people by the american government and cops are the troops fighting it.
The idea of defunding or disbanding the police is foolish but it needs ot be recognized that the opposite extreme is just as bad. EVen if BLM are marcxist shit heads this particular demand is the correct one to get behind.
