Sometimes people have to be protected from themselves
Sometimes people need to fall flat on their face. Not the place of government to coddle them.
And when people fall flat on their face, society does too.
Lies.
If you think its a lie, go see how people are living in Atlantic City, and compare it to the rest of the country.
And check out the difference in income between Boston, and Las Vegas.
Ice. Let's be serious here. What if I, the government, chose to take your money and told you how to spend it? Perhaps, say, the money in your pocket. Or that paycheck you just cashed at the bank. How well would you take it? Would you still be singing the same tune?
You talk about Americans having no true "economic freedom" but what you're suggesting the government do is essentially that, restrict the economic freedom of the citizenry. That's not your place. Nor the government's. Your goals are admirable, but misguided.
It's not your (or the government's) place to act as everyone else's conscience.
Now, I have a whole pallet of Twinkies calling my name, and I have just enough money to buy them. All.
Good day.
