I disagree with Libertarians, but they are mostly correct in that government is always invasive and dangerous, and the more centralized, the worse the risk from government becomes.
The only reason why big central government is justified at all is that the threats to individuals are getting bigger all the time, like multi national corporations.
The biggest problems we face in the US are all from the over reaching of the federal government, and were done by democrats. The includes foreign wars, the federal War on Drugs, the 1994 Federal crime act with mandatory sentences, 3 strikes, etc.
Centralization is not the way to go.
We need things like public health care, but it should be local, not federal.

I believe in free markets. The Govt should provide: Police; Fire; Roads; Military.

But looking back at democrats like Johnson and Vietnam, Hillary and the Arab Spring, etc., the democratic party looks worse than the republicans in some ways.
It was Biden who penned the awful 1994 Federal Crime Act, and it was Bill Clinton who signed it.
It also was Hillary in 1993 who proposed the mandatory private health insurance that got into Obamacare.
I am not very happy with the democratic party, at all.

I've found Libertarians to be mostly idiots who believe in natural market forces despite the market being entirely artificial. Yes, stronger governments are more dangerous than ineffectual ones but then the people living in areas of ineffectual governments face different dangers. It's a pick your poison sort of scenario more than some profound realization of government.

The rise of multi-national corporations and large, regulating governments coincides with the vast decrease in death by starvation and famine around the world. Multi-national corporations are the culmination of cooperative networks that encompass millions of people world wide to produce and move goods all across the world. That includes food and medical supplies. I'm not arguing they are benevolent but they are tools and they can be used for good and bad. But that goes for government as well.

Those things were also largely approved by Republican congressmen as well. The reason why dividing up government duties between federal, state and city governments works better is the same reason capitalism is better than socialist dictatorships, more avenues to success. The more people trying to do the same thing the more results we are going to get and we can see who's ideas work better. I agree that a diversity of options will more likely lead to finding optimal answers for human problems but that ignores that that isn't everyone intention in government. Some people don't care about those problems and are only looking for reasons to grift and that can happen at the local, state or federal level.

We probably should not have any police at all, but fire departments were almost always public because fire always threatens everyone, not just one property. Fire departments were usually volunteer.
Married women always were allowed to own property because of dowery rights.
Many cultures, like Judaism, do inheritance along maternal lines, because they are the only way to be sure of parentage.

It was and it was an edited video. That's not a convincing argument. A more convincing one is the ruling made by North Carolina courts, federal appeals courts and finally the supreme court, that found North Carolina Republicans "targeted black voters with surgical precision".

See the real issue isn't that black voters are too stupid to get IDs, it's that Republican legislatures try to disqualify IDs black voters are more likely to have and use to vote.

But I think the argument was that voter id had a "racial effect." I don't really think many black people are deterred from voting, but I don't think many people in either party of any race illegally vote.

Native Americans on reservations may not have drivers licenses. I don't really know.
