You are sitting in the park and meet a girl. She says she has one sibling.

What is the probability her sibling is also female?

(Assume no identical twins)

Is the sibling human, or a member of the animal kingdom?

(In todays world, she may consider her sibling a dog, cat, or fish)

You are not going to hide your inability to understand or solve the problem by being a smartass. Not that I don't respect smartassery. ;)

Well, it's pretty easy to see who took college math, and who did not.

But even so, one should be able to reason out the answer.

Prob(two girls | at least one girl)
= Prob(at least one girl | two girls) * Prob(two girls) / Prob(at least one girl)
= Prob(at least one girl | two girls) * Prob(two girls) / (1 - Prob(no girls))
= 1 * (1/4) / (1 - 1/4)
= 1/3

Or so google says. I never would've guessed it.

Wait is her sister a biological female or only identifies as a "female - birthing person" or whatever we call them today

Prob(two girls | at least one girl)
= Prob(at least one girl | two girls) * Prob(two girls) / Prob(at least one girl)
= Prob(at least one girl | two girls) * Prob(two girls) / (1 - Prob(no girls))

Google also says Obama is the king of the United States.

Without using Google, here is is how I arrived at 25%.

The girl could be the older sibling or the younger sibling. Assuming she's the older sibling:

G G (younger sibling is a girl)

G B (younger sibling is a boy)

B G (N/A)

B B (N/A)

That's one in four.

But I could be wrong.

I would say...not quite. But you touch on the semantic debate regarding the correct method and answer.
