Looks like they were deceptive regarding the ability of borrowers to release their co-signers from their loans. How does this absolve the borrower from their responsibility to pay their debt? Force Naviant to release co-signers and move on.

The borrowers should still own the money, no matter how you slice it, but leave it up to our screwed-up legal system to let them off on what amounts to a technicality.

Navient used deceptive business practices to steer people into forbearance instead of IBR plans. Under forbearance, interest builds and the total amount owed increases with no end in sight. With IBR plans, it is possible that they may not have to pay anything based on your income and after a certain amount of time, the remainder is forgiven. It is more than a technicality, it is a crime. Our legal system was screwed up when Congress removed student loans from bankruptcy protection. Before that, lenders and borrowers generally came to a agreement on a payment plan.

You’re acting as if America isn‘t ALREADY an extremely generous country. Unskilled people who don’t work, or earn very little, already get free health care, food stamps, subsidized housing, free school meals for their kids, Pell grants to learn a skill, etc., etc. Now granted, that’s not the middle class. But who (other than socialists) think people who have little marketable value, or don’t work at all, are entitled to a middle class lifestyle? If we just give people everything so they live in middle-class comfort, why would anyone want to better themselves so that they can EARN a middle class life? Besides, where is all this money supposed to come from? Should we just keep printing more, which will reduce the value of the dollar, so that people will NEED to be given more dollars to cover their increased costs? Everyone else can pay for their own college degree by starting In community college and then transferring to the State U for the final two years. They can work a part-time job at the same time, and graduate with minimal debt.

Thanks. I have to admit that it’s not a completely original idea. My father grew up impoverished - uneducated immigrant parents, had a tenement apartment with no bathroom and had to share with other tenants, etc., basically the poor type that Democrats think we need to just give stuff to so they can be middle class.

My dad exhibited what was necessary - a determination to work his way out of poverty, never so much as stole a stick of gum, studied his heart out (while Hitler was killing his family in Europe), and scored at the very top on the city-wide Regents. He was accepted into a STEM program (they didn’t call it that at the time), no tuition, worked and sacrificed, and made it to the middle class within 10 years.

Of course, leftists HATE when that happens - a smart, motivated, disciplined guy making a success of his life, despite unimaginable bigotry against his people - because his values were good and his choices wise.
