Both the Swiss and Swedes used these, about the only difference is the Swedes used aluminum and the Swiss stainless steel....Both used a SVEA alcohol stove.

You got a pan, pot, burner, stand/wind shield, a bottle for fuel, and a storage bag. The Swiss fork and spoon was just in there.

I keep a Swedish version on my 4-Wheeler.

Steel would be heavy though. Aluminum sounds better for purpose.

The US had an all purpose mess kit at the time.

LOL, the video reminded me of a late-Sun.-night show we have here--"The Outdoorsman, with Max (formerly Buck) McNeely." Buck died and his son took over.

I much rather prefer the US M-1950 single-burner gasoline stove. I've had about ten of those over the last 20 years, from both the Korean and Vietnam wars. But they always ended up being sold on Ebay. Same thing with those Swedish-made Svea 123 and Optimus/Primus single-burner stoves I've had so many of. They're pretty darned good stoves but they always seem to end up on Ebay.

I do keep two of these in the garage. They come in handy when we're camping out and don't want to take the Coleman two-burner or four-burner stove with us. The black steel heater attachment on the right puts out an incredible amount of heat with it's mounted on the top...

I had one of these--exception, mine had 3 wings. They fit in the palm of your hand folded up and were designed for a c-rat can, but you could balance a mess kit on it. The center cup accommodated about a 1" heat tab.

I have a SEVA 123, it nests perfectly in a old stainless steel 1 qt. cup you can use as a pot.

The only bad thing about the 123 is that it sounds like a V1 Buzz Bomb when operating.

Looks kind of heavy but durable. Titanium below weighs like a feather now for hiking gear. Nice piece of throwback equipment.

Yeah, Titanium is the way to go these days. Back when I did ultralight hiking/camping that was all I used....Even the spork.

That said if you are going to tote something in a vehicle of some kind the weight does not matter.

I've fixed many a quick late morning/midday meal with my Swedish unit when I did not want to return to hunt camp on prime deer hunting days.

BTW....Instead of denatured alcohol I used HEAT gasline antifreeze (yellow bottle). Catch the three packs on sale and it was cheaper per ounce than DA.....Burns a lot hotter too for much quicker boil-ups. 99% methanal so don't breath the fumes.

Here's a great alcohol stove site.

I laugh at plenty of the things you post.

I just happen to feel that Mr. Rogers is an American Icon and childrens hero that should never be abused in such a manner.

Although, I will admit, I think Fred Rogers would have laughed his ass off seeing that. He may have been a childs best friend on TV, but he had a mans sense of humor. Can't fault him for that.

When it comes to true American Icons........you run the risk of pissing people off who usually take everything with a grain of salt.

To be honest, there's very, very few things I find highly offensive. I laugh at most everything. But there are some things I believe should never be defamed or slandered. And I will say something if I see it happen.
