For sure the english translation "empire" for the German word "Reich" is wrong. A better translation is "realm" what is in German equivalent to the word "Bereich". "Holy Roman empire of German nation" - the only real Reich which ever had existed from 800 AD - 1806 AD is a totally wrong translation. A much better translation would be "Christian rule of law in the realm of the united nation(s)".

The English speaking world is by the way never using the expressions "First Reich" and "Second Reich" - only "Third Reich" (Hitler's own propaganda). And a second Reich indeed never really existed. We had to call it correctly "Prussian hereditary absolute monarchy with colonialistic elements from the British empire." And the so called "Third Reich" also never really existed - except in Hitler's propaganda. The real name is just simple Nazi-Germany.
