Let's face it....the day of big war ships is gone ...

Lol. OMG are you fucked up, but I knew that.

No nation has murdered more people than the US since WWII. Even more than your beloved Zionist apartheid regime committing genocide. If you don’t know this, you’re an ignoramus.
China since 1949, somewhere north of thirty million of its own citizens, plus a couple of million odd citizens of other countries. North Korea, several million north and South Korean citizens, North Vietnam, a million or South Vietnamese, Cambodia, one point three million over four years. Compared to those few examples. The USA is a piker at killing.

Lol. You know so little.

Do you have any idea the numbers killed in the US conflicts in Korea and SE Asia?

Then let’s move to the ME, where your beloved nation of Israel has gotten us in numerous conflicts that have killed millions.

Remember your hero Madeline Halfbright saying it was worth it, to murder half a million Iraqi children with sanctions? No doubt you support her as you now support Bibi murdering hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.

You’re an idiot. Food and medicine were EXCLUDED from the sanctions, the UN actually assisted Saddam in selling oil for money to buy food which he used to buy prohibited arms from France and Germany.

Lol. So you dispute the 500,000 Iraqi children who died. Prove it.

No doubt you believe your nation of Israel has provided HC to Palestinians while bombing all their hospitals and murdering all their doctors.

I’m not denying anything. I’m saying it wasn’t the USA’s fault.

Anti missile lasers are game change so

What battleships are you talking about? ... the USS Montana was cancelled in 1945 ... all four Iowa-class BB's are currently moored as museums ...

Oh ... you mean all the other navies in the world ... because the United States has hundreds of missiles carrying 20 megaton thermonuclear warheads ... enough to destroy all the warships in the whole world within a hour ...

We have submarines that carry up to 20 Trident II thermonuclear missiles ... enough to destroy half of Europe ... just one submarine ... the Ohio-class submarines were even named after the States ... as though they are replacing the battleships ...

Great idea, just 80 years late ...
Yes of course I understand that battleship and aircraft carrier are both different categories but as a general term battleship does just fine.

The point of the post is questioning whether or not money should be spent on large surface ships anymore. I'm pretty sure you know that.

Of course I understand we have a massive submarine fleet.
However China is not to be taken for granted or underestimated at this point neither is Russia.

The Gerald Ford class aircraft carriers are certainly very impressive machines and I'm sure we as peon layman are quite unaware of the full potential that these machines have however one cannot deny the fact that they also provide a gigantic Target for an increasingly accurate arsenal of anti-ship missiles.
Should we spend more money on surface ships or should we continue to expand on our superiority with submarines?

Which why do you think the money will be better spent?

One poster indicated that he is not convinced that the aircraft carriers are large targets and that they can defend themselves far more capably than any of us know. Perhaps this is true.
It would Sam you know more about it than I do ...what do you think?

The U.S. Navy has things people do not know about, and it is supposed to be be that way.
Given the large number of traitoris Congress critters I'm surprised they're not on the telephones giving our secrets away as we speak.

I want to believe:

OIP.g21mI88DT9dwlkEJ3nhFYQHaD9

I'd still like to see a Iowa class battleship pound the Iranian coast.

USS New Jersey.

Yeah I remember some time ago one of the gunships being pulled out of retirement to pound the Iraqi Coast.... Unless it's my imagination.

Do they still even make the ammunition for that stuff anymore?

Of course it was and your hero Madeline Halfbright didn’t deny it. She actually thought the deaths of 500,000 was worth it.

How many nations have suffered needless deaths because the US sanctions them?

To say nothing of the millions killed in US wars and coups. The millions lost in Ukraine and Gaza add to the total.

Aircraft carriers are a different critter ... and they don't really deploy alone ... they're surrounded by their battle flotilla ... destroyers, cruisers, oilers, subs ... plus 24/7 air patrols ... B-52's aloft ... one nuke and all gone ...

Now ... if we're talking a land invasion of China ... we're going to need these forward airbases, and they'll be worth their weight in gold ... if we're talking about China invading us, then mobile air cover is less important ... we have air bases along the Mexican border ... again, one nuke and that's all gone ...

Russia is Europe's problem ... we're just there to sell ammo ...

Aircraft carriers make good police ships ... I think you miss that with subs ... as long as we're World Policeâ„¢, the money is well spent ...

Land invasion of China!!! Have you lost your mind?

Why else would we war with China? ... the question is "what good are CV's in a war against China" ... why do you think a war with China wouldn't involve a land invasion? ...

Why have Americans become so pro-war?

As usual you don't know what you are talking about. Sanctions are perfectly legal and moral. I guess you think the USA shouldn't have sanctioned Imperial Japan in 1940 for its unprovoked war of aggression against China. You probably thing rape victims and murder victims are at fault for the actions of their attackers as well.

How many people died in Kuwait because of Saddam's unprovoked attack? How many would have died in Saudi Arabia and the Emirates if the USA hadn't sanctioned Iraq?

No where near the deaths caused by US government interventions.

Sanctions are an act of war. This is well known to informed people. They are illegal and immoral. Just as you are immoral.

Sanctions on Japan resulted in war with Japan. Why not avoid war? Is your peanut sized brain unable to comprehend this?

War is the health of the state. I’m certain you fail to understand this profound phrase.
