Leg cramps at night.

Every fucking night, I get awakened by EXCRUCIATING leg cramps. And I mean EXCRUCIATING. I can feel my calf muscle in one long hard knot, and when I wake up to bend over to rub it or kick it back where it belongs, I get a damn cramp in my side. Blood tests show I am not lacking in magnesium or calcium, but I ordered some anyway from amazon. ACK! That shit is EXPENSIVE! But I did it anyway. This has GOT to stop. As you can see, it is a bit after 5am. I've been up since 3:35am due to that damn cramp and now my leg is sore. So I took a flexirel and an advil, so although no pain, its sore if I massage my leg.

Did some leg exercise to stretch the muscle and now I am browsing for an exercise bike. Stationary. Foldable. I read at the Mayo Clinin website that a bike will help relieve cramps, and it mostly comes from age if other problems are not suspect.

Anyone here get these damn cramps too? Do you think a bike would help? What do you do to get a restful night and not wake up from pain that makes you want to hobble to your roof and throw yourself off? LOL

Anyway..I have this in my cart on Amazon. Havent ordered it yet. Not sure if the damn thing will work for what I want it for.

Gracie , usually cramps like you describe are caused by an electrolyte imbalance.

Be aware that over the counter dietary supplement pills are often a scam. They are not tested for potency. Sure, they may be tested for safety by the FDA, but they are not tested for potency.

You are better off eating some salted french fries. Potatoes are a great source of potassium and table salt is sodium and chloride.

Melatonin helps regulate your sleeping patterns. Stay hydrated. Take about 250mg magnesium every other day. Don't overdo it. Too much magnesium is not good. When cramps return drink more water.

eta, yeah eat bananas, and wifey (the expert) says the exercise bike can't hurt.

I have severe leg cramps and it is not from a lack of bananas, electrolytes or potassium it is because if nerve damage...I find a hotter than hell sitz bath helps but if that fails I cuss a lot.

IIRC, Epsom salts are magnesium sulfate. It might be possible that you can absorb them via your colon? :dunno:

Give this a try.....
Might not work for you but......

You are probably a bit dehydrated and need to drink more water. an electrolyte supplement will probably help too

Quinine water may help, it did for my father in law.

Yeah, those cramps can be brutal.

Can feel like you muscles are being ripped from your bones.

There was a movie scene I recall once where a man seeking revenge captured and restrained a man who had killed his wife and daughter.
He administered a CRAMP INDUCER to torture him. Moral of the story....don't kill anyone's wife and child.

Give this a try.....

I use that, and their restless leg stuff too. It's the only thing I've found that works.

Diet and exercise do work as well but I don't care about that when I wake up in the middle of the night with knotted up muscles.

They were very happy rill gubbmint said hey, wait a minute, you can't have that product used successfully for decades and decades.

Get a script you can't afford you fuckin old losers!

Nutritional values comparing Florida's avocados with the fruit from California......As you can clearly see, Florida's are "lighter".
The avocados grown in Florida are very different from those grown in California. The Florida avocado, with its smooth green skin, is nicknamed "alligator pear." Many feel they are lighter and sweeter than their California counterparts. Florida avocados, in my opinion, are accepted more readily by non-avocado people and kids that go "yuck".
They have a nutty taste and allot of people here cut them in slices and sprinkle with lime, olive oil, and lemon with a little chopped onion for a salad.
Mashed with xtra lite olive oil and a bit of salt and you have the healthiest butter replacement going on your breads.
Tuned up with a heavier olive oil, pepper, paprika and an egg white it is WAY better on a turkey sub than mayo and obviously better for you.
For those of you that love the Haas I have an alternative for you.
The Tonnage. 10% oil, thick, pebbly skin. . A cousin from Florida.
Heck, It might even be a Haas without the smog !
Go to the recipe page and look around a bit.
According to researchers at the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition, avocados rank highest in fruits that contain the following phytochemicals:
  • Lutein - protects against prostate cancer and eye disease such as cataracts and macular degeneration.
  • Vitamin E - a powerful antioxidant known to slow the aging process and protect against heart disease and various forms of cancer.
  • Glutathione - functions as an antioxidant like vitamin E to neutralize free radicals that can cause cell damage and lead to disease.
  • Beta-sitosterol - lowers blood cholesterol levels. Avocados contain four times as much beta-sitosterol as oranges, previously reported as the highest fruit source of this phytochemical. It actually blocks the absorption of cholesterol in your bloodstream.
  • Monounsaturated fats - heart-healthy fats proven to help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and boost HDL (good) cholesterol.
  • Folate - promotes healthy cell and tissue development. Folate is especially important for women of childbearing age as it helps protect against birth defects.
  • Potassium - helps balance the body's electrolytes. Avocados contain 60 percent more potassium than bananas.
  • Magnesium - helps produce energy and is important for muscle contraction and relaxation.
  • Fiber - lowers cholesterol and reduces risk of heart attack.

Got 3 hours rest...almost 4 hours, but I slept in the recliner. Woke up with...you guessed it. Not as bad though. Still....it greeted me a rainy good morning.

I drink lots of water. Bottle is sitting righ'chere by my pc alla time. And taters? Every day. Hashbrowns or fries. Love avacado's but rarely eat them. Can't eat nanners..they give me fierce heartburn. BUT..I will go to the store today and get some gatorade or something with electrolytes in it.

I take ropinerole for my restless legs. Found on google last night from Mayo Clinic or WebMD that restless leg syndrome is not related to leg cramps, but if it works better than the Arnicare I slather on my feet and calves every night, I'm willing to give it a try.

I'm doing ok on the magnesium and calcium according to my blood test, but it doesn't hurt to be better than just OK, right? So I have some of that ordered from Amazon too.

Why not just shove a few up there? I don't use Epsom's salts.
