No. It is absolutely defensive war for Russian Federation and Russian people. De facto, it is quite usual European Drung nach Osten, which they do at least twice a century (like with Hitler, Napoleon, Charles XII, Sigismund II and many other). De jury Ukraine attacked DPR and LPR, legally recognised by Russian Federation and which them Russia had a treaty of mutual defence.

Self-defense is one of the oldest and strongest motivations, and the signal "we are under attack" is much older than humanity.

I think, that Trump just trying to buy something (survival of Kievan regime) for nothing (empty words and vague promises).
I'm a simple man, and there is nothing obviously good. It might become a first step in the right direction (to the mutual safety and prosperity) or just an attempt to buy some time (and Trump needs at least few years of peace). I love peace and prosperity. I don't like idea about killing our brothers if we can avoid it. But as a simple man I love simple solutions, either. "Let's just kill them all and get lasting and reliable peace".

Talking about my understanding of Putin's psychology... Putin is a KGB type. They love complicated plans, sophisticated schemes and cunning operations. Plus, Putin's personal thing is knowledge of German language and culture. If we eliminate German state, German culture and German people, he is losing one of his advantages. So, he is prone to save Europe and Germany.

But both my and Putin's opinion in this case is absolutely irrelevant. Neither Europe, nor Kievan regime can accept this deal (as it was represented in media).

If its NO, then the war continues and the EU can support Ukraine.
If its YES, then Trump presents the peace deal to Putin, and Putin says NO.
I saw a video clip of Putin saying "no deal" even though the deal was not sent to him officially.

So no progress in ending the Ukraine War.
