LA City Council bans N-word at public meetings, triggering legal threats

See how easy that is, no profanity or offensive language and you still made your point. That's not too much to ask in a public forum, is it?

.

It's still a violation of the First. Probably why a 400 million lawsuit was filed.

And they have every right to throw an offender out of the meeting for disorderly conduct. They can exercise their free speech elsewhere.
These are PUBLIC MEETINGS, you nitwit. If you can't speak freely there, then free speech is gone.

I agree with their ban. You can have freedom of speech, but people have a right to not hear that kind of language in meetings.

You ban it for the same reason you wouldn't want people calling the women c-u-n-t-s and whores during the meeting.

Same vein
Absolutely right. We need a law that no one is allowed to say anything that might offend blacks or women. THAT'S SARCASM, YOU MORON.

So what, dum dum, you can still ban offensive language, if you can't make your point at a public meeting without using profanity, guess what? They can BAN you from attending.

So if I walk up to you and insult your wife and your mother, you're good with that?

Just making a point. You have the right to free speech, but if you are in my house, I tell you what you can or cannot say, or you leave. If you are in my business, I tell you what you can or cannot say, or you leave. If I am a member of the city council, and we vote on language appropriate for public meetings, if you dont like it, you leave. This doesnt take away your freedom of speech, it just puts rules on WHERE you can exercise that freedom of speech.

No one has a right to not hear anything that they don't want to hear. You may not like the words, you may not agree with them, and you may find them offensive, but you have no freedom from words so long as a threat isn't issued. Personally, I'd rather be offended than to silence someone else.

Say what you want about me or my family. I don't care. Your words can't hurt me in any way that I don't allow it. So have at it, I support your right to do so.

Why are some whites so eager to use that word? I'm sure the irish woman would have a fit if city council members were using the h word for whites.

But they wouldn't ban the h word. It's free speech.

I really don't have a problem with it. I believe in free speech, and I believe in decorum—but it should be applied equally to everyone. It should include all racial slurs, such as honkey, 'cracker,' 'Patty Boy,' and 'ghost' as well.

If you went to work in an office and started dropping N and C bombs out loud, you'd be fired. Why should it be any different at a public council meeting.

Like ****?
So this was me testing the waters by using the K-word used to pejoratively refer to those who are currently committing genocide in the Middle East.

I guess USMB recognizes that some words are best not used at all.

Interesting.

"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but WORDS will never hurt me".
That used to be COMMON SENSE.
Now? The demented LEFT see that as OBSOLETE.
