Houston Mayor John Whitmire has called an emergency city council meeting on Friday for members to consider repealing Proposition A, which limits Houston Police Department officers' interactions with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.

As of Tuesday afternoon, an account used by the city of Houston to receive grant money from the governor’s Office of Public Safety was closed and the city lost $110 million in funding because of Proposition A. The funding gap directly impacts HPD, the Houston Fire Department, and city offices of Emergency Management and Homeland Security unless the proposition is rescinded.

The governor’s office contacted Whitmire stating the proposition made the city in violation of grant conditions the city agreed to in order to receive the funding, The Center Square reported.

Who are blue chocolate cities in red states who think they can flaunt state laws and get away with it? They need to remember who holds the purse strings.

Houston/Harris County has not been the same since they took in the "refugees" from Katrina.

The Constitution makes immigration a federal issue, not a state issue.

What does that have to do with city officials not working and cooperating peacefully with federal officers to enforce federal law?

So that precludes state and local law enforcement from working with them?

It means they do not have to. It's not their job. I'm sure they have plenty of other issues which are their jobs to address.

And the feds, nor the state are required to fund them then either. :dunno:

Correct.

We should be very supportive of ice and the neighborhood ice cream man. Summer is here and the air will catch fire shortly here.
