LA City Council bans N-word at public meetings, triggering legal threats

Just your responses, seem, agitated
Tone is difficult to read over text so for your benefit I'm going to advise you to reread my comment and respond to the actual content instead of letting your own interpretation into someone's emotions that you have no knowledge of.

Im not disagreeing with you, but when a group of people have a public meeting and they vote to not use certain language, thems the rules, either abide by them, or leave.

Or say them anyway. Yes, you will be thrown out and possibly fined, but no one has a right to not hear anything that offends them. Yes, it is a stupid argument but when people act like they're entitled to not be offended, they are being blatantly stupid. No one has that right. Speak up and speak proud.

I see your point but would rather not get into it. My aim here is not to argue about where and when it might be appropriate to limit speech.

Now you are arguing semantics. Any time you cannot say things that you wish to say (provided that they are lawful speeches), your speech IS being limited.

So you dont want to talk about where you can say what you want, but then say im arguing semantics.

Again, I can see how in a private area, say, someone's house, he can have rules about stuff like, you cannot swear in his house, or you cannot use racial slurs in his house...etc, or he kicks you out. However, nobody should be able to have the ability to have such rules in a place that is not privately owned. In other words, a public space.

Ok, so once again, can I go into a middle school and start letting f bombs fly all over the place?

Can I walk into a government hearing and start letting f bombs fly?

Can I go into my local DMV and start letting f bombs fly?

Can someone go to a pride parade and start making slurs about gay people?

Can someone go to the DNC and start yelling and cursing and all that?

The answer, in every case, is no.

Again, free speech CAN be restricted in certain places by the people of that place.

I did respond, what else would you like me to say?

Not quite sure what your tears are all about. You can talk about whatever you want sir, but if it's something that I am not interested in, I will simply refrain from responding to it. Whats the big deal?

Ok, so once again, can I go into a middle school and start letting f bombs fly all over the place?
Technically, you can.

False.

Of course they can. But should they though?

Not really. You made an assumption about me instead of responding to the content. But it's your speech, do what you want.
No, before that, I answered your questions. What else would you like?

Yes, technically you can, and in every case, they will throw you out. Does that mean my free speech was being hindered?

No, before that, I answered your questions. What else would you like?
Asking if I was agitated is you answering my question? Okay. We'll go with that. It isn't honest but I guess deflection is all you have to resort to now. Have at it.

Why are some whites so eager to use that word? I'm sure the irish woman would have a fit if city council members were using the h word for whites.
It's not whites who use the word. It's blacks who use it.

As a homo white liberal posing as a black, you wouldn't know that.

Sir, I am not interested in arguing with you over whether speech is being curtailed in these cases, because I don't think this is important. The important thing is that I know that no one should have the power to censor others' speech (provided that it's lawful speech), in a public space.

Nobody is suggesting they should, unless you are in a public meeting and the meeting attendees vote to not allow profane language
