After many years deciphering the language the "authorities" concluded that there was a magical time in the past when wolves could talk and pigs could talk and build houses so they spread "the news" about the wise pig and built statues and places of worship in which to light candles, ring bells, and sing songs to honor and praise the wise pig and pray to him for guidance while reviling the big bad wolf as evil incarnate (and making tons of money).

This amounts to what Pagan Europeans did when they usurped authority over interpreting Jewish writings as literal accounts of historical events without an inkling about the meaning of the words and subjects or that the highly educated dedicated moral and ethical authors used well know literary devices for TEACHING, the openly stated purpose and meaning of the word Torah, using homonyms, parables, metaphors, similes, analogies, hyperbole, etc.

So when someone practices idolatry they die in a very real way just like you died a death so debilitating that you can't "see" the absurdity of turning to a matzo for eternal spiritual life.
