To this I will add (even emphasize)
obedience.
John 3:16 famous verse,
"For God so loved the world that he gave* his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life." The Hebrew/Aramaic etymology of 'belief' emphasizes trust that builds one life on that belief. Continue reading John, Chapter 3, and we see this emphasized, in verses 19-21.
And this is the verdict,n that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil.
For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed.
But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.
Personally, I loathe the way John 3:18 (
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God) is thrown at people of different faiths/religions--particularly at Jews. John introduces Jesus as the
Word of God. Jews
believe the Word of God and, this to the extent, they
obey the word of God.
Today's use/understanding of
belief has been reduced to a mere opinion or supposition as it has no empirical (physical, measurable) proof.
