“It will be my objective to phase out Social Security." - Sen. Mike Lee says the quiet part out loud.

People working longer help fund Social Security.
Forcing them to retire early and collect benefits longer will bankrupt Social Security.
If people like to work or need to work why do assholes like you know better?

Butt out.

There are hundreds of thousands collecting and working. I know many... They contribute to SS through payroll and also to taxes at a fairly high rate. They are usually excellent employees and worth the effort. For some sedentary life is not an option.

Our congressional misfits have been yammering away for decades about trashing SS, because they want to squander those funds on their own special interests

while having every gub'mit retirement benefit possible, as well as being positioned to assume wealth by means which YOU could be jailed for

Historically, if you invested $5 a day over 40 years, you'd have over a million dollars by retirement age. This government scheme keeps the masses poor and dependent.
You are free to do that into your 401k. That is different than SS.

"to pull it up by the roots and get rid of it".

Well, that's plain enough for me! What do you think?

Correction: Republicans want to end the elderly mugging the young. Phasing out SS and enabling younger people to save in their own retirement accounts is the way to go. SS is a tax with a tiny bit of a pension thrown as crumbs to the taxpayer. The rate of return is negative. All SS has done is to enable the bloating up of our incompetent, tyrannical, bureaucratic government.

Try living off your savings after you retire. Let me know how long you last.

Employee + Employer SS taxes are 12.4%. One would have plenty of savings if this were in one's own investment account for retirement.

Phase out Mike Lee

Invest the Social Security Trust Fund in to US Equities. That will provide capital to grow the economy and put Social Security on a solid financial footing

The way SS works is that current workers pay for retirees benefits.
