I Just Quit Republican Party - Now Independent

It's unfair billionaires have to pay far more in taxes than anyone else. Given that that is the case, why doesn't it make sense that the biggest taxpayers get the biggest tax cuts?
As a percentage of their income they pay less than even the poorest people.

They may not pay the increased rent, but they sure pay big when the electrician or plumber has to be called in. When its time to replace an AC, washing nachime or refrigerator. Roof. Termites. Need I go any further ?
You made the decision to rent, so you assume the risk that the cost of your rent will go up!

The homeowner assumes the risk that the AC goes out.

My daughter bought her house almost 7 years ago. In that time, it required a new roof, new water piping throughout the house, and a new AC unit, plus the entire AC system ducting had to be cleaned and sealed. Not once during all of that time did her rent increase because she doesn't pay rent. 7 years later, she could sell her house this minute and pocket $100,000 in profit, but she will keep her house in case her husband gets assigned back at the same Army post. The total she has put out for repairs was about $30,000. She is still $70K to the good side and her payments have not increased one bit.

It's like the old FRAM car part commercial. You can pay me now or pay me later.

Bankrupting SS for everyone will accomplish nothing. You still haven't come up with a solution, have you?

But they Receive far more money, that's why they're billionaires.

Nothing is outside the scope of federal power if federal power decides to put it in its scope.

With the precarious scenario of Social Security, I would say restricting rent increases (+ rollbacks) is probably the way to go, at last in the short term.

I cant understand why landlords seem to be such an untouchable, privileged group, when they are annihilating 112 million renters, 40 million small business owners, 160 million stockholders of small & large businesses. And they are a tiny % of the population.
That means you are just an idiot hell-bent on proving your own ignorance. Why do you do this to yourself? What you propose is outright communism.

No, except for restricting rents. Should landlords be able to gouge renters, and drive businesses broke ? (like they did to Sam Ash Music (was in business for 100 years before the Biden years astronimical rent increases.)

Who goes out and buys a $900 guitar, when their rent just went from $600/month to $1800/month in 4 years ?

Do you have brown eyes by chance? They should be because you as so full of shit! If you don't want to pay the increased rent, move! Surely there are people out there that can afford the rent, or they would not raise it. When you move out if no one moves in, they lose everything and they will be the next person going out of business.

Seriously, comparing people affording guitars to their rent increasing? Are you 15 years old and never worked a day in your life? That's how you come across with your stupid, illogical rants!

Let's not get carried away. Preventing landlords from devouring 99% of society for their own selfish gain isnt communism. Amd it's the business communuty who needs to be protected from the landlords as much as anyone.

The US is not a 100% capitalist society .It is a combination of capitalist & socialist, each having their function & place. Sometimes when situations get extreme, action has to be taken to protect the majority of Americans

I don't see how you can not get this . It's elementary, or maybe you just don't WANT to. :doubt:

So you're OK with 112 million renters being GOUGED like no one ever heard of before ?

Ok with 40 million small businesses losing SALES big time ?

OK with 160 million stockholders getting shafted ? If so, we might need to have a whole new definition of the word tolerance.

OK, 10:20 pm and I haven't even had dinner yet. I'm outta here.

99% of society? Now, who is being hysterical? Everything balances out in the long run. What you propose is direct government control over all aspects of the economy. Do you know what that economic theory is called? Communism. Have a nice day!

You need to seek psychiatric help for these delusions and hysteria.

So what? That's grossly unfair that they pay such a huge amount.
Mashmont also believes that when 2 different people shop at Costco, and one spend $25 and the other spends $3,000 he believes that it is grossly unfair that one spending $3,000 has to pay such a huge tax bill.

Grossly Unfair says Mashmont.

Looks like you can't even speak English, let alone post something of substance. And what's your beef anyway, You a landlord ? Hmmm.
You must be.
Oh, I know lots and lots of landlords although not one myself.

Real Estate Property Taxes, insurance, both liability and property has hit them hard (and the reason for much of the increase you’re complaining about) then add the increased wages (remember all the talk about living wages you all cry about?)

Then on top of that, lazy and negligent tenant……….

I’m surprised any of them even want to assume the risk.

FALSE! I said nothing about "all aspects of the economy", YOU said that.

I'm only talking about housing rentals, and YES I said 99% of society. What % did you think landlords were ?

"Communism!" Now, who is being hysterical?
Answer: YOU - you sound like the lunatic boneheads who got 58,000 good Americans killed (& God knows how many SE Asians) in the Vietnam War over nothing.

At the same time, you're willing to allow 112 Million American renters to be GOUGED immeasurably, many reduced to homelessness, and 40 million small businesses & 160 million stockholders to be beaten to a pulp economically, FOR WHAT ? To protect ONE class of business ownership ?, while thousands of others are harmed (some driven out of business)

Come on man. You're smarting than that. I know you are.

:puhleeze:What is surprising is that anyone would have the (assinine) audacity to try to claim that 100-200% rent increases over 4 years, are needed to cover costs. Wow, talk about insulting intelligence.

Yeah sure, they needed to raise rents from $600/month to $1800/month to cover costs. :right: You must think we are all idiots.

Landlords and their running dogs think they can say any idiotic thing, and the public will buy it. And no, we don't want to buy your bridge in Brooklyn either. Pheeeeew!

Why the big bold print for >> So you're OK with 112 million renters being GOUGED like no one ever heard of before ?

Do you actually not know that that has been happening ?

I just changed my political party from Republican to Independent. Yes, I agree with Trump on a variety of things BUT there is one glaring (if not terrifying) thing that is staring me in the face, that I don't see anybody even talking about, much less dealing with it. That is the outrageous discrepancy between the yearly Social Security COLA (Cost of living Adjustment) increase in our monthly Social Security check, and the monstrous housing rent increases that landlords have been walloping us with.

So what does this mean in $$ & cents ? The 2025 & 2026 COLAs both were 2.8%. So our Social Security checks went up 2.8%.
This gave me a "whopping" (insulting) $31/month more to my income. At the same time, my apartment rent went up $104. So I LOST $73 per month. That's like going out in the street and being mugged for $73 once every month. Or being mugged for $876 once a year. Or $4,380 every 5 years.

For $4,380, I could buy a helluva nice guitar and mandolin, both of excellent quality.

It would be nice if some politicians were to even BE TALKING ABOUT THIS, much less doing something about it.

So, all you seniors out there, collecting Social Security, have you contacted your folks in Congress ? A 2018 study done by the Senior citizens League showed a noticable 34% loss of buying power since 2000 - and that was before housing rents went on their astronomical surges of the 2020s (and showing no sign of diminishing). REMEMBER >>> If your congressmen don't hear from you, THEY THINK YOURE HAPPY, AND DOING FINE.

Either the rents have to be controlled, or the COLAs need to be increased (or both). Doing nothing is unacceptable. Unless you think getting poorer & poorer with each passing year is acceptable - in which case, you'll need to have your head examined.

Note - 73% of Social Security recipients rely on it for most of their income. 50% rely on it for ALL of their income.

If your living off your SS only youre an idiot. We just got the biggest tax cut in history that offsets any increase in costs. That was a GOP tax cut and not one democrat voted for it. Man up take side you just like to complain.
