I Just Quit Republican Party - Now Independent

99% of society? Now, who is being hysterical? Everything balances out in the long run.
"balances out" - you mean like thousands of peole going homeless. That's the "balance " you're OK with ? Thousands of businesses losing huge chunks of money.

NO, it does NOT balance out, Not at all. That's the whole point. It is totally UNBALANCED. It is like a balance scale where all the money is on the side of one small entity (landlords), and everybody else gets shafted.
How can people be so stupid ? Sheeesh!

The OP is just reflecting the reality of most people. The US is not set up for the average guy to get by. It is set up for the wealthy and owners to drain every last cent of the working class. “I owe my soul to the company sto’e (store)”.

Like the OP though, as long as they can be distracted by directing their anger at it toward brown people and gays, or whatever group they hate today, paired with calling anything to make the country more fair “socialism” or “Marxism” or any “ism”…..nothing will change.

What could be dumber than defending the people who are robbing you ?

And I don't see either party Republicans or Democrats taking any action to fix the enormous gap between Social Security COLA (2.8%) and housing rent increases (10-12%)

Note also that housing rent increases were 100-200% during the Biden years, so we're all still stuck with that massive inflation. It doesnt go away. Those astronomical rents aren't falling.

And anger toward "brown people" isn't really as much against them, as it is against the looney far left, that allows millions of those people to violate our PROTECTIONIST laws against illegal immigration, and (with AA) our PROTECTIONIST laws against racial discrimination.

Look, I appreciate your point of view as the parties’ difference on housing solutions is subtle but really important to understand because it carries over to every policy. Both want to address supply but other than that its a big difference.

Democrats treat housing as a supply problem AND an income/market power problem. Their solutions are more directed toward incentivizing the building of affordable housing.

Republicans treat housing as a supply problem ONLY and dont offer any targeted support for affordable house building only reducing barriers for the corporations to build more housing at every level so that they can get richer and hopefully house supply will trickle down to the moderate and low income markets as well.

Regardless.. this has been overlooked for so long it will take a long time to fix. There is not magic bullet to housing supply.

However the differences in solutions permeates every policy outside housing as well. The Democrats believe we need to direct capitalism because it is imperfect to address its inequities and the republicans think it will magically fix the inequities because capitalism is perfect and needs no rules. We’ve given “no rules” and “let the fox guard the henhouse” long enough to see its not working.

Have you asked yourself how you can be so stupid, because people like me are asking? Your imagination is running away with you and you need to move. Seek psychiatric help.

Mashmont also believes that when 2 different people shop at Costco, and one spend $25 and the other spends $3,000 he believes that it is grossly unfair that one spending $3,000 has to pay such a huge tax bill.

Grossly Unfair says Mashmont.
No, what you're proposing is like two people going to the movies; one paying $12 and the other paying $30,000.

I just changed my political party from Republican to Independent. Yes, I agree with Trump on a variety of things BUT there is one glaring (if not terrifying) thing that is staring me in the face, that I don't see anybody even talking about, much less dealing with it. That is the outrageous discrepancy between the yearly Social Security COLA (Cost of living Adjustment) increase in our monthly Social Security check, and the monstrous housing rent increases that landlords have been walloping us with.

So what does this mean in $$ & cents ? The 2025 & 2026 COLAs both were 2.8%. So our Social Security checks went up 2.8%.
This gave me a "whopping" (insulting) $31/month more to my income. At the same time, my apartment rent went up $104. So I LOST $73 per month. That's like going out in the street and being mugged for $73 once every month. Or being mugged for $876 once a year. Or $4,380 every 5 years.

For $4,380, I could buy a helluva nice guitar and mandolin, both of excellent quality.

It would be nice if some politicians were to even BE TALKING ABOUT THIS, much less doing something about it.

So, all you seniors out there, collecting Social Security, have you contacted your folks in Congress ? A 2018 study done by the Senior citizens League showed a noticable 34% loss of buying power since 2000 - and that was before housing rents went on their astronomical surges of the 2020s (and showing no sign of diminishing). REMEMBER >>> If your congressmen don't hear from you, THEY THINK YOURE HAPPY, AND DOING FINE.

Either the rents have to be controlled, or the COLAs need to be increased (or both). Doing nothing is unacceptable. Unless you think getting poorer & poorer with each passing year is acceptable - in which case, you'll need to have your head examined.

Note - 73% of Social Security recipients rely on it for most of their income. 50% rely on it for ALL of their income.

You have NEVER been a Conservative much less a Republican.

So the initial premise is wrong...in fact a LIE.

So why should I believe anything else you have to offer?
I shouldnt....one lie minimum to start a conversation upon means you are never going to be honest.

Not in any conversation about ideas or much of anything.

So...
I do not care about anything else you have to offer....you are dishonest at best. Another snake lying weasel.
Figures.

I quit being a Republican, but stayed a Solid Conservative, back when Bush Sr. was POTUS, due to his invoking the "New World Order" before Congress.

Since that time, I've seen, many, many Un-American, Nation Destroying Acts committed by the Republican Party, as well as the Democrats.

Both Parties, using Social Security, as a slush fund, is an Act, that should've caused the Public Flogging of all involved till their clothes fell off,.... But don't misunderstand me here,..... Jointly, the Democrats, & Republicans, have committed many Acts of Treason, Fraud, & more, where the same penalty, at a minimum, should be applied.

Total HOT AIR "reply", to a post that was filled with substance. YOU'RE the one needing the self-examination here.

Some interesting stuff here, although somewhat vague, and somewhat dodging the subjects of rent control legislation and Social Security COLAs, which are the heart & soul of this issue.

Many (if not most) old people are not able to move to new "affordable housing" if there is any, nor do they want to. The problem is greedy landlords who go around pretending that they need to raise rents 100-200% over 4 years, to control their costs, and expecting us to believe it.
