“It will be my objective to phase out Social Security." - Sen. Mike Lee says the quiet part out loud.

The system has not failed. Millions of old people are provided a social safety net and medical benefits every single year. How is that a failure?

What difference does that make? If Trump does it, every poor and middle class person will hate his guts...but he won't care. He's not running for president again.

No it won't.....because Trump and the Republican Party simply do not care about the poor and middle class. They never have and they never will.

Which is why you are a sucker imbecile for voting for them.

If they had a "better" plan, Trump would have proposed it during his first term. Idiot.
It has failed if you can't recognize that we have nothing more to debate... every dollar that is paid to recipients is borrowed...

And? That doesn't indicate failure, Kleetus.

What indicates failure is when the oligarchy Republican Party, completely owned by their billionaire donors, decides to no longer fund Social Security and Medicare and millions more Americans fall into poverty because of it.

Now that is failure.

:cuckoo:

That is a John Boy Waltons fantasy. Some did, many struggled or lived in dependent poverty. Why exactly should we go back to that?
So the billionaires can keep more of their money.

False. You clearly don’t understand the system

I don’t think it has “failed”. There seems to be a way of thinking that if something doesn’t correctly 100% of the time all the time, it has “failed”. Programs like this are always going to need tweaking or updating as time goes on and things change. People have this weird idea that things were great before SS.

No one has come up with a “new and better” plan (this reminds of the Republican attempts to get rid of the ACA).

The account for SS is full of IOU's.... its has failed...

According to the Social Security Administration's (SSA) 2024 annual trustees report, Social Security will be able to pay full benefits for 11 more years. However, without congressional action, the program's trust fund reserves are projected to run out in 2035, and retirees would only receive 83% of their full benefits.
According to the May 2024 trustees' report, the Social Security Administration will deplete its reserves in 2035. Without congressional action, the fund will then only be able to pay out 83% of full benefits.

It has always been full of IOUs (bonds).
It was never a pile of gold coins or $20s.

That isn’t “failed”, it means the problems need to be addressed.

It's the binary mindset. It can only be all this or all that.

They're so lost in the ideology that they have no idea what this would mean for them, their families or their loved ones.
