Sure, any expense hits lower incomes harder. Utilities bills hit them harder. Rent hits them harder. Food hits them harder. We don’t discount any of these items based on income. Why would we discount SS tax, which unlike federal income tax, they will likely receive back(plus some for lower incomes) once they retire?
