It seems so long ago, I had almost forgotten.

Speaking of memories, I'm reminded of McTreason's cynically telling remark about the R's setting out to make Obama a one term prez and in so doing how they sabotaged his popular agenda. Which is to say the results he got were not unilaterally within his power to achieve.
And democrats set out to make Trump, Bush I and II, Reagan, Nixon, Ford, and on and on one termers. Name any election where the opposition didn’t want to win. That is just a stupid idea.

No it wasn’t, he pitted big insurance against Americans
He tried to enlist the help of insurance companies to reduce premiums by attempting to enlarge the pool of insured customers and in return required them to cover preventative medicine. The entire endeavor having been sabotaged from day one by Republicans.

As is his want, he spoke about human dignity, mutual respect, the democratic ideals that bind us, and the values we share as Americans. In so doing I was reminded of what this country was and aspired to be. Something from which we are on what I hope is only a brief hiatus, but worry we are not. What a contrast from our current situation.

Unfortunately, it also brought back memories of how much he was loathed. And in some circles still is. Despite the impeccably civil, ethical, contemplative, mature, forward thinking nature of his presidency. We sure could use some of that right now.

I became very sad watching Obama yesterday. It reminded that this country once had ethical, competent, highly intelligent presidents that the world respected.

And now we have Trump -- a total incompetent, corrupt, racist clown with a 5th grade education in the White House. I don't know that the country is going to survive this ******* idiot.

You missed the point. "Which is to say the results Obama got were not unilaterally within his power to achieve."

Really? WTF did the Founders have in mind? The winner share half the office with the loser?

Dumbass.
Um. Yes they sort of did. The loser of the election Became the VP. Why else did they have to amend the Constitution so soon? They realized that doesn't work in the real world.

The (12th) amendment was proposed after the 1796 election resulted in a president (John Adams) and vice president (Thomas Jefferson) from opposing parties, and the 1800 election led to a tie between Jefferson and Aaron Burr. They were members of the same party (Democratic-Republican), but it took the House of Representatives 36 contentious ballots to break the tie, electing Jefferson president and Burr vice president. In 1804, Jefferson was re-elected and George Clinton became the first vice president under the 12th Amendment.

I watched a few minutes yesterday. Intelligent, mature, articulate, principled, dignified, clear, focused, empathetic. I could only watch so much of that, knowing that so much of the country considers those qualities to be signs of weakness. Or evil. Or something.
That's not our problem with this communist

The contrast is striking. We haven't even begun to suffer the consequences of the trump debacle.

Yea, Trump has taken us somewhere no one alive today has ever been before, at least politically.

It's not a good place, as history has proven.

Wow.....I knew you were stupid, but not this stupid.

The Presidential candidate who finished 2nd used to be Vice President. That all changed after the chaotic, very close election of Adams vs Jefferson and Burr in 1800. That was really the beginning of the stark political party divide in this country.

Historians and presidential scholars generally rank Barack Obama as an "above average" to "near-great" president, typically placing him in the top tier of all U.S. commanders-in-chief. In major academic polls, Obama frequently lands around the 10th to 12th spot overall. [1, 2]

At the DNC in 2024, Kamala Harris stood with a bunch of millionaire and billionaire celebrities all chanting, "We're not going back!". Democrats lost the presidency, the House, and the Senate. Then they decided to do an "autopsy" as to why they lost so badly, which they didn't even read. Fast foward to now and we've got Barack Obama opening up his presidential library and ordinary Americans were barred while opening day belonged to only the millionaires and billionaires.

No it wasn’t, he pitted big insurance against Americans, banks were bad and evil but prosecuted none, doctors were bad, "Clinging to Guns or Religion, relegated the GOP to the “back of the bus.” You didn’t build that, the calling of Cambridge police acting stupidly, weighing in and putting pressure to prosecute In the Martin case. The list goes on and on, he often spoke down to Americans, especially if you disagreed with him, not necessarily. Clinton, Bush Sr, Reagan, Kennedy didn’t do that.

He divided American didn’t unite, give proof he united people.
That's a nice list of phony GOP talking points you got there. None of those false narratives worked to defeat Obama but the lies amplified by Faux did help a great deal in polarizing the nation.

The worst was the "You didn't Build that" lie, lifted from a very uplifting speech, praising the work we have done together to build the fantastic infrastructure that allows individual businesses to thrive. They built and entire political advertisement campaign on lie that Obama was talking about those individual businesses instead of the awesome infrastructure we have built.

The world has never seen anything like the right wing propaganda machine.

15th post
As I watched the highlights from the ceremony I was was struck by this thought. How could the same country elect both Obama and trump within a few short years?
why dont you ask the democrats that?....they were responsible twice for him getting elected...

That's what I am afraid of. The damage he has done to your cult is permanent. I hope not, but time will tell
